Default New anti low carb book published.

CARBOPHOBIA: THE SCARY TRUTH BEHIND AMERICA'S LOW CARB CRAZE BY DR.
MICHAEL GREGER M.D. isbn 1-59056-086-8

Some people say the author is a shill for animal rights activists.

I don't know about that one or another, but the book has 57 pages of
citations to back up his claims and a 39 page section where the Atkins
Corporations gets to resond to him ( and his rebuttals ).

Have you read it?

Does the infamous Dr. Greger make any good points?

Yes, he is a proponent of a strict vegetarian diet - no animal foods at all.
He has a website, I've read some of his stuff. It looks more or less
credible except that what he may not understand or care about is that all
those studies proving animal food, dairy, fat, etc. bad are based on either
clinical studies that don't couple high fat and/or animal protein with a
reduced carbohydrate diet. Likewise, population studies and other
epidemiological-type data doesn't effectively address the type of reduced
carb diets we mostly eat. That allows people like Greger to point to the
association between animal fat and, say, breast cancer, or heart disease,
and say... "Look, eating animal fat is associated with [name the disease].
What he *doesn't* say is that you can also usually find other factors, such
as sugar intake, high glycemic carb intake, that are *just* as closely
associated with those diseases.

There is no question that eating a goodly amount of green and highly colored
vegetables is _very good_ for you, no matter what else you eat. There are
healthy vegetarian diets and very unhealthy vegetarian diets. Likewise, some
of us have pretty darn healthy reduced carb diets, others don't. Authors
like Greger don't make that clear, because they are pushing their own
agenda. They will simply ignore and fail to report any study that does not
agree with their agenda, and will usually ignore the deficiencies of those
studies that do serve their purpose.

According to Publishers Weekly (see Amazon.com) he is a vegetarian

nutrition
specialist. haha.

Obviously, he's gone back and collected all of the old BS science articles
that were trying to prove that LF is the true way. There's plenty of that
stuff around.

I dont understand... If a low carb diet doesn't work, then howcum I
lost 53 pounds and haven't gained them back in 19 months? And my
doctor says I'm extremely healthy (he took me off my BP meds and cut
my Zocor from 40 mg to 10)..... I guess he's a quack and my scale is
wrong...

That's all water weight :-)

And it's only the duct tape holding your kidneys in.
