Vodka fattening?

:: Is vodka by itself fattening? No....if you don't eat anything else and take in only enough to supply your body's maintenance calories you won't gain weight. {Plenty of people drink a lot and aren't fat.} However, you will be very lacking in nutrition if you depend on vodka as food. |

Vodka and other hard alcohol is not fattening whatsoever. Your body
cannot use it for anything and uses up stored energy to get rid of it through your liver. Ken Bessler wrote: Is vodka by itself fattening? |

hmmm ... it was my understanding that alcohol contains 7 calories per gram
and that the alcoholic calories were used FIRST ... this if consuming alcohol AND eating regular quanities ... the EXTRA non-alcoholic calories would be stored as fat. a calorie is a calorie is a calorie Placid "I went into the store and saw a "Pet Supplies" sign ... so I did!" While the alcohol won't become fat, the other food you eat may be. :: :: a calorie is a calorie is a calorie :: :: Placid :: "I went into the store and saw a "Pet Supplies" sign ... so I did!" :: "Dull Pecle" wrote in message :: ... ::: Vodka and other hard alcohol is not fattening whatsoever. Your body cannot use these calories. It actually burns other calories
getting rid of alcohol. A calorie is not a calorie is not a calorie. Everything has calories. A marble or a steel ball bearing is loaded with calories but if you eat or swallow them, your body will not use the calories. It will just get rid of them. Gasoline is loaded with calories but your body couldn't use them. placidbull wrote: hmmm ... it was my understanding that alcohol contains 7 calories per gram and that the alcoholic calories were used FIRST ... this if consuming alcohol AND eating regular quanities ... the EXTRA non-alcoholic calories would be stored as fat. a calorie is a calorie is a calorie Placid "I went into the store and saw a "Pet Supplies" sign ... so I did!" Vodka fattening?
For me, the calories in a little bit of vodka (or tequila) are not as much of a
problem as the food that I think it is OK to eat after a few drinksG. An ounce of liquor has around 70 calories, but provides no nutrition so I think the best answer is that vodka is not fattening if you drink moderate amounts and make sure that you don't let it displace your good, healthy food like veggies.
