High Calorie question.
Hi all,
Have a question that is sort of OT (sort of not as well). I made up a bowl of boiled eggs that I mashed up with a fork and added some butter, mayonaise and chives. I then stirred and put in the fridge overnight. I then went and calculated how many caloried this concoction was. It was extremely high. Over 1000 calories for 100 grams of the stuff! (But damn it tastes good!). Question? Will something high in calories (like this stuff) fulfill me the same as something that is high in size but much lower in calories (say like a big bowl of veggies)? Just wondering... It seems a bit funny really - I ate 100 grams (of the egg mix) for breakfast and 100 grams (of the egg mix) for lunch and here I am at 5pm starving away... gonna eat something a bit lower in calories but am interested by this topic... thats all :-) Cheers Matt. |

High Calorie question.
How could you get 1000 calories for 100 grams, that is more than any of the
components, butter has 717 calories/100 grams, mayo about the same and eggs 210? High Calorie question.
Hey lemonsky.
The amount of calories I eat doesn't matter for me either. I still lose weight on a very high calorie diet. BUT, there are many others that swear that it does and they make of research findings that it will damage the heart. Just ignore them, for they know not what they do. High Calorie question.
FOB,
Long term, you'll do a whole lot better snacking on fiber-filled lower calories low carb foods rather than extremely high calorie low carb foods. Why? 1. Fiber filled low carb foods (like veggies, sunflower seeds, bran crackers, etc) will help keep your digestive system from plugging up. The longer you are on this diet, the more you will appreciate this. 2. Fiber filled foods have all kinds of other nutrients which your body needs. 3. Calories do count. If you weigh a lot, you might not notice this at first, but as your weight loss continues and you get closer to your goal, most people stall out unless they watch their calories. 4. You'll do a whole lot better on maintenance if you've learned to eat less caloric foods rather than high caloric foods for snacking. -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 4 years. At goal for weight. High Calorie question.
Atkins repeatedly says that calories are not as important as the
balance of carbs, fat, protein. I know people talk about reducing calories here, but Atkins book doesn't mention watching calories at all, just carbs. And he was staunchly against the traditional calories in-calorie out=weight loss mentality. The important thing is to not be hungry. If you are hungry then you should be eating. If you are walking around hungry then you are on a more traditional starve-yourself-a-little diet and you will lose lean muscle mass instead of just adipose(fatty) tissue. You should eat till full not stuffed and when hungry snack. Oddly enough I've lost weight after my 3000 calorie days yet gained a little after 2000 calorie days. COnfusing? That's because we are focusing on calories, which Atkins didn't do. On those 3000 calorie days my fat-to-carb was betweeen 10 and 18. (10x more fat grams than carbs). On my 2000 day my ratio was 8, and I gained. Atkins says the higher the ratio the more ketosis will be induced. And that is the goal of Atkins, not to reduce your caloric intake, but to induce ketosis and not the loss of lean tissue. The fats & protein in the diet will satiate hunger and will naturally control your appetite and eliminate carb cravings. This will allow you to have a normal appetite instead of an over-revved carb-addict one. "Matt Scott" wrote: Hi all, Have a question that is sort of OT (sort of not as well).
