I have officially been on maintenance for a month. And I find, much

to
my disappointment, that I maintained all this weight while eating

only
marginally more than what I have been eating during weight loss. I

was
hoping that I would not be hungry once I decide to maintain
weight. But no, I am still hungry a good part of the day. Not to the
point of being miserable, but I would like to be less hungry.

Any ideas on how to deal with this...

Have you tried smaller meals with some snacks to keep a little

something in
the stomach to avoid hunger? I usually eat my meals at 7am, 11:30am

and
7pm. I always have a mid morning and afternoon snack to keep from

getting
too hungry before the next meal. I often add an additional snack in

the
afternoon if I'm heading off to Curves as it means dinner won't be

until
after 8:00pm. I've found smaller meals with a few in-between snacks

really
keeps me from getting hungry.

Beverly

Beverly, try one of these that work for me.

1) A cup of black coffee after each meal, and one before going to bed
(caffeine-free, of course). Black, because milk or sugar in it might
make you hungry.

How about a little non-fat dairy creamer in the coffee? I love the stuff
but have never been able to drink it black.

2) Psyllium in water

I have some of this at home...will give it a try.

3) Canned green or yellow beans (Two cans give you a total of 25
calories!)
4) Eat more vegetables and fruits. How much of these do you eat a day,
Beverly?

Most snacks are fruit and I always have vegetables for lunch and dinner.
Lunch and dinner are often a large green salad with chicken or turkey. I
brought my lunch today from leftovers last night. It's stir-fried veggies
and tofu.

Thanks for the suggestions.

If I remember correctly you have lost the weight without counting calories,
protein, fat, fiber or any vitamins etc. Your hunger could be caused by some
deficiency. Also fruits and vegetables tend to give larger volume for the
same calories. This tends to help you feel fuller.

I'd like to know where you are getting your info on the canned beans. I have
a 13 ounce can of FreshLike Cut Green Beans in front of me. The can has 3
servings, each are 20 calories. So if you eat the whole can, you're getting
60 calories. 2 Cans would be 120 calories.

Not high in calories, but certainly not the 25-30 calories you keep stating.
There is also 400mg of sodium in one serving, so the whole can gives you
1200mg, 2 cans would be 2400mg, which is the top limit for a daily salt
intake, especially for someone on a salt restricted diet. (I rinse them
before use, but don't know how much sodium this actually removes)

I seldom buy canned vegetables but I have noticed low-sodium versions for
some. I wonder how much sodium is in them?

Ah, that is not being hungry. That is your old habits trying to come back. You
cannot give in if you expect to maintain your loss.

Hang in there, maintence is hard.

I do not think that I am deficient in anything. I eat anything I want
from all food groups except the chocolate food group. I figure that
this way my body will tell me what it needs.

Could you possibly be eating too many carbs and sugar from fruits? I
know that in my case, a breakfast of toast and fruit will leave me
feeling hungry rather quickly. But a breakfast of 1 hardboiled egg
can leave me satisfied alot longer.

It may not be how much you are eating, but what you are eating that is
causing the hunger.

The dried fruit will cause weight gain like nobody's business. I bet you're
right on the money, jayjay.

There's your problem. I'd perish without chocolate ;-)

Remember the Woody Allen movie Sleeper? They talked about the good old days
when the 3 food groups were Red meat, deep fat and Hot Fudge!? I always
loved that.

AMen to that... When I eat dried fruit I bloat like a floating
deadman. :-)

Then again, dried fruit digesting in my digestive system also causes
fermentation and gas and bloating right with it. Not a pretty
picture.

lol! The only time I eat dried fruit is when I'm hiking or backpacking. It's
easy to digest, doesn't take much room and is easy to eat while I'm hiking.

Yeah, I started eating dried fruit when on our hiking vacations.
(not much hiking to be done here). I soon realized the punch that
stuff packs. 1/4 cup is not that much for a couple hundred calories
of food. The sugar content caused water retention really fast and
the gas and bloating I get is just not fun!

THe stuff is tasty, you just gotta be careful. I can recall one of
my hiking trips to NC I was gone a week and came back 7lbs heavier.
(I'd been low carbing prior to, so the carb load was overwhelming for
me).
