Default low carb pasta

Did you me 28g of carbs or 28g of fiber?

You might want to check out some of the whole wheat varieties as well
then -- I like the Hodgson Mills varieties. They are high in fiber (6g
per serving) and the carbs are lower than the "white" kind. Also, the
net carbs would be in a similar range (if you ment 28g carbs per serving).

Here's the nutritional info for their thin spaghetti:
http://www.hodgsonmill.com/cgi-bin/n... &product_id=

As an asside, I used this thin spaghetti in a recipe this weekend that
was a big hit at home. It was beef broccoli lo mein and the recipe was
from the current issue of Cooking Light (with soup on the cover). DH
loved it. We'll definitely have that again.

btw, that is one cup of COOKED pasta.

Well, that's pretty good. 28g of fiber in a cup of cooked pasta, kinda puts
pasta back onto the "ok to eat" list for me. Regular pasta is just too much
empty calories for me.

I tried it for the first time this weekend. Bella Vita was the brand. It
was different from regular pasta, but still very good - just seemed alot
more "hearty"... What I'm wondering about is the nutrition info - it says 1
cup has 160 cal, 28g of protein, 8g fiber, 10g effective carbs. Seems too
good to be true. Is it a cooked cup, or a dry cup? 28g of protein in a cup
of pasta sounds like alot, but I can't find any info on the box that
differentiates cooked/dry...

1 cup cooked. A serving of pasta is generally 2 oz dry or 1 cup
cooked. I believe dry, that equates to a handful about the diameter
of a quarter.

So, with the new pasta, and some ground plain psyllium husk powder added to
my protein shakes, my fiber intake is finally at rda... But this damned gas
is killing me! I feel very bloated. Will that go away when my body gets
used to the fiber?

Yes, the bloating and gas does subside once the body gets used to it.
One way to help avoid that is to gradually increase your fiber, not in
big chunks. Don't shock the system too much.

28g of protein, 18g of carbs, 8g of fiber, which makes only 10g of effective
carbs...

28 g protein in 1 cup serving? That's more than my protein powder
packs.

Yeah, I know! That's why I was asking yesterday, but I went home last night
and confirmed - 1 cup cooked pasta has 160 cal, 28g prot, 18g carbs, 8g
fiber - so only 10g effective carbs...

Trader Joes is the only place so far that I've been able to find it, and
I've done a search online of all the major grocery chains. I'll bet you
have a "low carb" store near you, they seem to be popping up all over. If
you have any other trendy type grocery stores or health food stores they may
carry it.

It's sold online, too:

http://www.racconto.com/product_categories.html

Check out the "Bella Vita Low Carb" category. I got the LC penne rigate
at TJ's awhile back and I really like it. Trader Joe's does run out
quickly when they get a shipment and it takes them awhile to restock, so I
was thinking of ordering online or trying the Darielle low carb pasta at
Whole Foods/Bread and Circus. People do seem to like this kind
though; Darielle is always in stock, and when I went to TJ's last night to
see if they had any Bella Vita, a woman nearly pushed me out of the way to
get to its spot and then sighed loudly when she saw that there was none to
be had.

-Alison, who never eats pasta because it's just boring empty calories, but
likes it when it's full of protein and fiber
