Default Water Anyone?

Nope, just don't like to be dehydrated.

You're drinking far more than you need to just to avoid dehydration,
unless it's always 116° F with 80% humidity where you live.

Living in Florida with the heat and humidity here, its
very easy to suffer heatstroke and die just by doing yardwork in the
afternoon.

I'll agree with the need for water when working in the heat, but do you
do that every day?

Must be inconvenient, especially if you're somewhere with no convenient
toilets.

Did I say there were no toilets? Actually, there are plenty available, just
ask any woman, we know where they are. : )

About 6 miles, mostly up and down steep hills, except for the last 2.5
miles.

A good walk.

It's San Francisco, so almost zero humidity.

Are you sure you don't mean almost 100% humidity?

It wasn't muggy at all. Quite dry.

I think I said in my original post it was around 80 degrees.

Right now? Isn't that awfully warm for San Francisco at any time of
year?

Absolutely not. We get our warmest weather this time of year. We always have
the warmest Indian summers.

I love San Fran.... last time I checked, they had alot of humidity...

since
they are right off of the coast.

Nope, not unless it's foggy, which it hasn't been for days.

I was just curious to know how much water
you folks drink. I usually drink around 12 to
15 glasses a day.

About 1 litre per day on normal days. In very hot weather, about 1
litre per hour.

It was really warm out today and I went for a nice
long and hilly 6-mile walk, so I drank closer to
17 glasses, including milk.

Almost six litres? How many times did you stop to urinate?

About once an hour.

My walk: I went from my house up to Nob Hill down through Chinatown

and
Northbeach, up to Coit Tower and down to the Embarcadero

What distance does this represent, and what were the temperature and
humidity?

how is that possible?
san fran is on the pacific ocean!

Well, it wasn't zero, but it wasn't one of those horrible humid days much of
the rest of the country seems to get. The air was quite arid.

95+ degrees w/ 90+% humidity.

I'll agree with the need for water when working in the heat, but do you
do that every day?

No, every day I do my usual drinking that I posted. The "optional"
as in carrying about 96oz of water on a summer bike ride is optional
and only done when I exercise in the heat. Otherwise its 32oz. for a
1 to 2 hr exercise session. Not to mention, often times in the
summers since daylight is longer, its easy for me to go on a 2 or 3 hr
bikeride and consume 96oz in that time.

A guy I work with was talking about how sick he made himself this
weekend. He's a marathon running, and currently training for the NY
marathon. He went on a 3 hr run this weekend and didn't drink
enough. Said he lost 8lbs and was sick the rest of the day.

Me - That has happened to me a couple times when I first got back into
the exercise thing. But since then, just one bad experience and I'd
rather drink too much than not enough. I can pee out too much. I
don't want a trip to the emergency room for not enough.

My minimum requirements would probably be less than 32oz a day of
water. But I have found that I feel better and actually lose weight
and can control my appetite if I drink as much as I do.

Its more a personal preference.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I was curious about how much water
everyone gets and it looks like I'm in the norm. I can drink water all day
long and still want more. It's a good thing I love the taste of water!

I drink about 100 oz of decaf coffee, decaf diet soda, water in my
morning shake, etc.
