She said the digital registered "nothing", not 1/2 pound from her hoped-for
weight. To me, that reads it was totally broken or the battery was dead.

Becky said,
I've not arrived at my ultimate goal yet.

I want to look for DaVinci syrups while I'm there, but there aren't any
Marshalls or TJ Maxx in our rural part of FL...have to go to Lakeland or
Tampa to find those, I think. My parents are big into flea markets, so I
hope to hit up a couple of those when I'm there, as I like them too.

My parents are celebrating their 50th anniversary. I should say,
rather, that the kids are putting on a celebration for their parents!
We've been getting ready.

But, I'm scared to death of all the treats that will be available, since I
have a terrible sweet tooth and the knowledge that things aren't available
here makes it doubly tempting to "try things". If you can have a Winn
Dixie donut "anytime", that is one sort of temptation, you can tell
yourself, "next month, I'll try one," or something like that, but I can't
tell myself that. Unfortunately for me, there are lots of things like
that in the US that i like like English muffins, bagels, donuts - but I
don't prefer Krispy Kreme, in fact, they would be at the bottom - Dunkin
Donuts would be much higher, but I happen tolike a fresh Winn Dixie just
as well - My kids have orders for a box of Twinkies (no temptation to
me), and Little Debbie Snack cakes, oatmeal, and Starbursts and Starburst
jelly beans. I can "take or leave" hard candy, and really, any of the
prepackaged stuff, but the really tasty breads are difficult for me to
resist. So, I will make doubly sure that I'm not hungry when I head into
the store.

I remember from last time I was in the states, most of the things I was
tempted with weren't "worth it". IOW, I had built them up in my mind to be
better than they were when I tried them after 4 years...(except for the
bagels and fresh yeast glazed donuts), that was the case for just about
all the junk food I tried (and I wasn't on a diet then).

Hopefully the LC craze will actually help me by offering some different
"tempting" things that I'd like to try, just for fun. I normally eat so
"plain" 'ole food, that it will be luxury just to try one of those Atkins
gooey chocolate caramel bars, and hope that I won't be sorely
disappointed.

I'd also like to go to the store and try on some new clothes and see what
I fit. I wore a size 14 Counterparts (Sears?) straight skirt this morning
but currently have on a "S" Flax Engelhart jumper. Someone sent over some
sweats that when I put them on, drag the ground by 2 inches (I'm about 5'
1/2").

Thanks for all the encouragement this group has been to me. I'm planning
on posting my website with a few updated pics as soon as my DH gets back
from Belarus and has a few moments of time to help me (Monday).

No, it won't. Who told'ya "gooey?"

You will. But, if all is crashing into junk food around you, they won't
kill you.

I remember going to England one time and not overeating carbs. Then
going and overeating carbs. It was like two different countries.

Have much fun.

Em says:
I know Becky, I was just responding to Jim Bard's message, "Since the scale
gave out, I hereby proclaim, for all to see and witness, this day May 23rd
of 2004, that Becky Made It. Congratulations!"

Actually, I think that the times I've eaten the sweet things that have
tempted me has helped me. When I've been low carbing for a while and then
eat something that I've always loved, the sugar rush and then the sudden dip
leaves me feeling so sick I think twice before doing it again! I'm not
saying I don't yield, just that I'm doing it less and less because it just
doesn't give me the same pleasure it did before. Does that make sense? I
used to love those Little Debbie oatmeal thingies but I'll bet now they
wouldn't taste as good as I remember.

How long will you be in Florida before you return to Poland? How often do
you get back? By the way, Becky, you've been doing very well thus far so
don't let the temptations get to you!

Fair enough - I take back all the stuff about not wasting time and
energy with the scales....

But, please be proud of yourself and your weight loss, and don't fret
over 1/2 lb....

Becky answers,
I'll be in FL til June 7 this time. We came to Poland in 1994, went back
to the US in 1998 for almost a year, and went back again in 2003 for 4
months. I'm only going back now because all of us kids (5 of us) are
having this thing for my parents and it would be a shame for me to miss
it. My kids don't remember their grandparents too well except through the
boxes that they send.

About the stuff not tasting as good. I've found that to be true, for the
most part. Most of it just isn't that great, but somehow my mind has made
it really good, especially because I'm not eating it and think it is.
But, what I've found even more startling, is the gastric distress caused
by a sudden influx of wheat and sugars. I think it is the wheat, really!
It really does help mentally to have thost tasty things make your stomach
hurt. It takes that desire away very quickly! I'm not sure about the
sugar rush, but I know the tired feeling from eating a lot of carbs is
overwhelming. I had always thought it was the other way around. But, I
got really drowsy in the afternoon after a big meal with carby stuff. That
is a feeling I don't like.

I'm not planning on pigging out on "LC" food. I'm really philosophically
against all those companies making so much money on "my" fat. But, I am
curious, and am the kind of person who likes to "try new things". So, I
suppose, that for no other reason, unless I've read, "It's Nasty!" here, I
might be tempted to try some things while I'm there, just to experience
them. We'll see. Maybe not, too, if they are quite expensive. I'll be
staying with mom and dad, who are really into "Low Fat", so we'll see.

You could order the syrups online, and have them delivered to your parents
house while you are there.
