Default A Good Low Carb Ice Cream!

Harold,

The thing that makes the Skinny Carb bars work for me is the lack of
WMD-style "gas attack". I cannot eat the Breyers without terrible things
happening gas-tronomically for the rest of the day.

The other thing I really like about Skinny Carb, is that I don't get any
kind of rebound hunger. Unlike the other low carb ice creams I've sampled,
which tend to make me want to eat more, one portion of theirs is very
satisfying.

I just hope they don't change the formulation. The pre-December Breyers
worked very well for me too, then they redesigned it.

Here's what I posted a month ago on the subject:

================================================== =========================
I don't do a whole lot of shopping at Albertsons here in San Jose, as
the Safeway store is more convenient. Often, however, the Albertsons
has a greater selection. I found an Ice Cream Bar that's quite good.
Made by Silhouette, it's called a SKINNY CARB BAR.

The thing that caught my eye was the list of ingredients. I had
previously been using Dreyers NSA ice creams. It comes in two
varieties (several flavors each), one just No Sugar Added and the
other No Fat as well as NSA. I don't care for the NF/NSA versions,
but thought the plain NSA weren't too bad. But even on those it is
reduced fat and the first ingredient is skim milk. On the Skinny Carb
Bars, the first ingredient is cream. It shows in the taste.

Two flavors so far, Vanilla Caramel Pecan (which has, truth to tell,
very little of caramel or pecans) and Chocolate Peanut Butter (which I
haven't tried).

================================================== ==========================
=

So, with a first ingredient of CREAM, you can understand why it tastes
quite good. Breyer's CarbSmart has milk, then cream, and is pretty
good, but the Dreyer's (a regional brand out west, that's NOT a typo
for Breyer's) that started with skim milk was only OK.

Each bar is 4 oz and they come 6 to a container, with 3 net carbs
after subtracting fiber (5g) and sugar alcohol.

They apparently started with lowfat products, since they have many
more of those and their website is at skinnycow.com - but I'm glad
they're braching out. Their top page says "Available Now" (which it
is - at least here) while their new products page is still on "coming
soon", so my guess is this has just recently been released.

yes, how *dare* people respond to someone you don't like? the nerve!
there oughta be a law!

Someone else *responding* to someone whom I have killfiled is not a
problem for me, Queenie. I do, however, have a problem with someone who
recommends killfiling another while simultaneously *quoting* the
offending poster in question!! At least two separate people recommended
that the OP just killfile JC to cure the problem, and yet they quoted
JC's usual "asshole" responses in both their posts. That's kind of like
someone saying, "Hey...if you don't like my porn pictures, you don't
have to look at them", while wearing a XXX-rated T-shirt and running a
XXX porn video on the TV a few feet away. How does one avoid it?

one turns one's back, i suppose.

IOW, killfiling is not a cure-all, when it comes to trolls, but some
people just aggravate the problem by not taking the small amount of time
and effort it takes to snip their posts.

alas, there are lots of stupid people on usenet. sometimes one just has
to suck it up. i've gotten good at using the enter key vs the scroll
bar to get things that annoy me off the screen that much faster.

it also helps to not take any of it too seriously. but that's just me
and my way of dealing with it. you've gotta do what's right for you.

So, what, exactly, is in these? Anyone know?

Thanks!

You're like Lot's wife!
Look, and get something straight..! You're here to lose weight and keep
it off!! Forget the damn ice cream for about a year!
Then, after you are 'thinking' right and down to the weight you wanted,
then buy a quart of the creamiest, highest priced stuff you can find and
drive in!!
About twenty minutes later you should be picking yourself up off the
floor with such a 'sugar hit' you will never go back to THAT crap again..,
BUT maybe some other crap..!! (smile)

Atkins bars are really good, and are relatively OK for a treat.

Atkins Advantage (protein) bars are only passably edible, IMO, but
are OK if you're in a can't-look-at-food mood but know you need to eat
something, and just want to get it down quick. (While some people here
find it unbelievable, there actually are people who don't eat when upset
or stressed, rather than overeating when upset or stressed).

Or if you have to skip a junky provided meal at a meeting, and no time for
real food, an Atkins bar can be an okay occasional substitute. I consider
them poor fare for as a treat, though, and almost 200 calories is an awful
lot to waste on a treat that isn't very good. At least the recent ones
don't resemble flavored Play-Dough as much as all the early versions did.

[Note that along the past several years I've sampled many brands of
LC protein bars, and found 3 or 4 passably edible like the current
Atkins ones, and most just nasty, pasty stuff.]

Atkins SF chocolate bars and other "Endulge" candies are pretty good if
you like milk chocolate rather than dark (I prefer dark), but they're
still junkfood with a boatload of empty calories, and should be treated
as such. Some people overeat them just because they have no sugar,
just like they did with fat-free Snackwells.

I also need ice cream to live or survive on earth. My solution is one I

I haven't seen mentioned on this newsgroup but I find it an excellent
ice cream. I have a home ice cream machine. One that you freeze the
tub in the freezer before using. What I use is Soft Serve mix
available from www.carbolitedirect.com. I originally added milk made
from skim milk powder to mix with the soft serve. I did tolerate that
but it had no richness to it. My big discovery was low carb Soy Milk
available from Trader Joe's. It has 2 carbs/8oz and very low in fat,
something I look for, although people on this newsgroup might use
heavy cream. I would use the word "yummy" to describe this
if I wasn't so sick of this over used word to describe recipes.

To state exactly what I do, first at the Carbolite Direct site, in the
left hand corner just below the picture, click on "Purchase Online".
Next screen, on the left hand side click on "Soft Serve Mix".
You will then see a page with two items listed. I buy two bags at a
time due to shipping costs. If you want to see the nutrition label
click on the number of the product. You can buy chocolate or vanilla.
Either one is good. I usually buy vanilla and just flavor it with
extract or a chocolate powder as the spirit moves me.

Now, the mix. I mix 16 oz of soy milk with about 3/4 of a cup of mix.
You just do a simple mix. No whipping is necessary. I add some
Splenda, vanilla extract and pour it all into the spinning tub of the
ice cream machine. Mine has a switch for either ice cream or soft
serve. I find the soft serve best. All I can say now is
Y.........oops, slipped. Almost said it.

Just a simple question.
