Default Anyone Else Read the Wall Street Journal?

They have a leaked copy of the Medical Examiner's report on Dr. Atkins.
They got the report by way of the PCRM, which they correctly, if
inadequately, describe as a vegetarian advocacy group.

To access the article online you need a password, but the gist is that the
examiner's report found that he weighed 258 lbs, indeed did die of a blunt
head trauma, and that he had a history of Myocardial Infarction,
Congestive Heart Failure and and Hypertension. The Atkins group says this
is all a result of the cardiomyopathy that they'd already disclosed.

I have no opinions, one way or another, just letting you know it's out
there.

Martha

Of course this is being spread around by the anti-Atkins brigade, but i just
don't see the relevance. It'd be like saying the evangelical message of
Jimmy Swaggart is discredited because he was a whore-monger.

To me, the most disturbing aspect of this story is that a NYC Medical
Examiner's was leaked to PCRM. Regardless of whose autopsy report is
involved, this shouldn't happen. And given that it's a leak, there's no

It's funny. When I read this, for some reason I'd assumed that there was
someone allied to PCRM working in the ME's office. But, when you drew
attention to it I realized that wasn't very likely and more probably they
paid someone for a copy.

Somehow, that makes it even worse, to me.

way to know whether it's accurate on the face of it (even given the
possible "benign" explanations for weight gain resulting from treatment
for his fall).

True.

The latest AP story, at
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...=/ap/20040211/
ap_on_he_me/atkins_medical_report, cites someone from the ME's office;
apparently a doctor from Nebraska, claiming to have been one of Atkins'
physicians, requested a copy of the report and gave it to PCRM.
Complaints are being made to Nebraska health officials and even Mayor
Bloomberg (who was trashing Dr Atkins last week) says that the report
should not have been released.
