Another newbie question: for DC area low carb-ers
I'm starting SBD on Monday. I heard a lo-car grocery store advertised on the
radio: Whoa, that's low. I live in Loudoun County, and this store is in Silver Spring, MD. Is it worth my time to head out there tomorrow, or can you get pretty much the same stuff at your local Giant or Whole Foods? Thanks for tolerating all the newbie questions! Sheila |

Sheila Sheila, What kind of "low carb" foods are you looking for? If you are looking for good fresh veggies, Global Foods in Manassas has the BEST. For frozen veggies, Trader Joes are the best. Lots of good cheeses, some over-priced. Good not-too-sweet Belgian chocolate. I like the Vitamin Shop house brand of protein powder. For nuts & berries & meat and bagged salad, Costco. Also at Costco, extra virgin olive oil & balsamic vinegar (sugary, but a little bit goes a long way) half & half, butter & some cheeses. Are there any low-carb foods that I left out? Robyn |

Another newbie question: for DC area low carb-ers
Sheila,
I live on the Eastern Shore of MD and there are certainly no LC stores here! :-) You local grocery will have everything you need - lots of veggies, meats, cheeses, etc. If you are looking for those LC 'treats', I really wouldn't bother, although I know my Food Lion stocks the Breyers CarbSmart ice creams and a variety of bars and breads. However, I find eating the bars or pastas/breads make me want more and I end up overdoing it. Look around on the web, there are tons of sites that offer LC recipes and if you need a treat, check out your local restaurants or right here in the group. These folks have been a never ending source of information and inspiration! As an aside... I drive 50 miles to get to work and forget some days to bring my lunch. There is a little mom-and-pop deli in our building that I didn't go to much because there was really nothing there for me. What's great is that they have figured out that there are enough LCers that work in the building to make it worthwhile to chase that business. (I guess too many of us told them what we needed!) They have created a really nice LC menu. What a surprise. Sometimes all you have to do is ask. Jerri 243/228/160 Since 10/25/03 "WhansaMi" wrote in message ... I'm starting SBD on Monday. Another newbie question: for DC area low carb-ers
Hmm, I'm 30 miles up the road from there. I may (eventually) have to
haul my butt down there to see it in person. It sure looks like they have a good assortment that I haven't seen in the local grocery stores. http://www.whoathatslo.com/ Lee WhansaMi wrote: I'm starting SBD on Monday. I heard a lo-car grocery store advertised on the radio: Whoa, that's low. |

Nah, sorry. I'm closer to Bawlmer G.
The place looks intriguing, but I'd have to take 95 or 29 to get there, and I gave them up after commuting to DC for years G. But hmmm, now that I think of it, one of my coworkers lives in Silver Spring... Lee WhansaMi wrote: Hmm, I'm 30 miles up the road from there. Lee Well, I tried to get my DH to go over there yesterday, but he pointed out that I am going on Level 1 for two weeks anyway, so I couldn't have most of the stuff. We will probably go weekend after next. I'll let you know what it is like! Sheila |

Good idea. The folks here are pretty unanimous that you should do
induction (or whatever, depending on the plan) without artificial aids. A lot of the cool "low carb" stuff can do people in, especially if they aren't used to the plan and don't understand what's involved. I think of it kinda like you need to learn to add before you can use a calculator. Please, do report back after you go.
