Is Atkins + cardio & weight training enough to lower BF%...
to the point where I'll see ab definition? I'm currently at 12% and would
like to get it down to 8 or 9. Is LC enough or should I go low-carb + low-cal (and exercise)? Thanks. |

Is LC enough or should I go low-carb + low-cal (and exercise)? Thanks. A prevalent theory among many bodybuilders is that a cyclic ketogenic diet (CKD) is needed to get sufficiently cut without loss of muscle mass. You can google that to get lots of information. I reached my ideal (lowest adult) weight, and have also wondered if I should take the extra steps to get to that sixpack stage. However, I am still slowly gaining strength but without gaining pounds (which means fat is stil disppearing somewhere that I can't see), so perhaps patience will get me closer without having to go off low carb. You're not going to lose bf unless you manage to create a calorie deficit. It doesn't really matter if you do it via LC, LF, or Low calorie. Obviously, exercise will be important and you need to be concerned about losing muscle mass. |

I'm not sure how many people here have recent experience with the difference between 12% and 8% body fat. Even when I've been in great shape, I've never gotten my body fat percentage down that low. (Great shape means lifting weights 3-4 times a week, running 50 miles a week, and biking somewhere between 150-200 miles a week). Frankly, I'm surprised you can't see any definition in your abs at 12%. I've never been down that low, but there have been times when I could see some definition there. Instead of dieting, I'd recommend doing alot of exercise and a ton of ab work. Also, I'd have a hard time recommending a change of diet for anyone who was at 12% body fat. Even if you want to see some definition in your abs, I would recommend against dieting to get there. I have seen too many people who start yo-yo dieting when they never needed to diet in the first place, all because they falsely thought they needed to lose just a few pounds. Usually this happenned to slim girls who had the crazy idea that their thighs were fat and gross. But I've seen the same results with some folks who got obsessed with body building for a time. The only way to get there is through a hypocaloric diet. Why do you give nonsensical advice when you don't have any experience or knowledge of the subject? Here's a clue: everybody has abdominal muscles. Most people's abs are covered with fat and always will be. Like yours. Idiot. |
