Well, come on now. I told you that we regularly get people who post
comments just to get a reaction, right? The responses you got don't reflect
people being so offended but more than likely just having fun with a troll.
Some - I think - consider it a fun pasttime, actually! You have to remember
that this is not some supported official place...it's a newsgroup full of
people from who knows where, posting whatever they want. As such, it has to
be used with discernment and care.

Atkins is the most popular low carb plan for a reason - it works and is
quite simple to follow. It is not the only low carb plan and the others
work too and probably explain the concepts better than does Atkins.

This is the primary reason I think you're probably a troll.
Go to a low carb support group and assert that the most
popular low carb plan is "really bad for you". It is at very
least a clear-cut sign that you haven't done any
homework at all and are therefore unlikely to do any in
the future. Like anything worth doing, low carb comes
with homework.

If you're going to call Atkins "really bad for you", why
post at all unless you're a troll?

Would you expect anyone in this group to tell you yes, we know it's
"really bad for you" but we do it anyway?

Well, the question is is she a troll or is she hopeless? I don't believe in
the latter.

Look at all of those comments by the troll that you responded to and tell me
this isn't a classic troll. It reminds me of the people who write Dear Abby
and say, "My husband and I are having all these problems--but don't tell me
to go for counseling." and then want Dear Abby to solve everything.

As for me, I think she's really saying "It's not my fault! I can't help
myself. I don't like healthy food, I don't like to exercise and don't tell
me the problem is with me! I can't help it! It's not my fault!"

Until a person accepts responsibility, you can't help them. You can't
"support" them. They are closed off.

Both? After all, look at the subject line: "I think I'm addicted to food and
alergic (sic) to exercising!" and tell me if this is a person who actually
wants to hear someone say: You are NOT addicted to food and you are NOT
allergic to exercising. IMHO, she is trying to put up a wall and say "Don't
even mention restricting food or advocate exercise because I won't listen!

I drove by a strip mall today with a sign outside that read: "Body Wrap!
Lose up to 8 inches and release toxins in one hour!"
That's what people want to hear!

Toxins, smoxins! Ain't nobody lobbing 8" off my pride 'n joy!!!!

Regarding the dog thing, I've always left my pets home & had a friend or
neighbor come over to care for them OR brought them along for the trip. I
know people do it, but I'll be damned if I'm going to throw a pet of mine
into a kennel. That'd be fricken' horrible.

I remember when we had this chiwawa (I don't know how to spell it -- its a
Spanish word, I think, for large barking rat). We (wife/kids/my parents)
snuck the dog into a hotel & were trying really hard to keep her quiet. My
mother, may she RIP, had quite the sense of humor and was knocking on the
door to get the dog to bark. The hotel manager comes over, asks if we have a
dog & I'm like, "No. Of course not.", he says, "Well, I've had complaints
about a barking dog." Me, acting a little angry, "What the hell are you
talking about. My son is sick and he's coughing. Who the f* is complaining
about my son? What room are they in?" In the meantime, the wife's around the
corner muzzling the dog, & the dog is growling & wanting to bark and run to
the door, and mom's side is practically splitting from the laughter. Looking
back, I guess, its a laugh. (Or yet another trauma -- no wonder I'm fat.)

Yup, mom was quite the card, & we somehow managed to get away with a lot of
stuff over the years -- but it was never easy.

Anyway, yes, back on-topic. Dog's are low-carb and are a delicacy in many
countries. I've never eaten dog that I know of, although I had Dim Sum once
in Hong Kong and really don't know what I was eating.

There was a Chinese restaurant that I used to visit, frequently, that was
SHUT DOWN because they got caught advertising TURKEY on their menu and
actually serving CAT. Interestingly enough, turkey & broccoli was my fav.
dish at that place & I have probably eaten cat, unknowingly, a number of
times.

Actually, a number of places in the area were shut down. If you were eatin'
Chinese food in Torrance California like in the mid 80's, chances are you've
eaten some kitty stew yourself!

also, I don't mean to cause controversy if that's what you mean when
you say "troll". I'm a little confused as to why you guys think I
am that?

We get a lot of trolls and spammers here (although not as many as a
few years ago), and they tend to ask clueless and/or provocative
questions that make it clear they don't really know anything about
low-carb. They also tend to post everything in one long paragraph
with sloppy capitalization (if any) and lots of extra punctuation!!!
So your post kinda tripped the possible-troll meter. It's not
infallible, though, so my apologies if I mischaracterized you.

i've really gotten negative responses from people when I post
things...it's extremely discouraging. I thought the point of these
groups where for support and help and friendship? Am I wrong?

Well, if you don't mind some constructive criticism, you'll get much
better responses if you write better. You don't have to be as stilted
and proper as me; but the easier your posts are to read, the more
people will like you, think you're a real person, and want to help
you. When you write sloppy, it looks like you don't respect the
people who will be reading it, so they won't be inclined to help you.

If English isn't your first language, or if you attended a typical
American public school, then you can only do your best, but a few
things will help a lot: Capitalize the first letter of every
sentence and end each one with a single punctuation mark. Break your
post up into paragraphs, because long unbroken blocks of text are hard
to read. If you aren't sure where to put paragraph breaks, read your
text out loud and put one wherever you stop to take a breath. Use
your newsreader's spell checker if it has one. We all make spelling
errors and typos, but the fewer the better. Proofread every post at
least once.

If it seems like I'm picking on you, I'm not, honestly. Usenet is a
medium where people have to be very particular about whether to read a
post all the way through and whether to reply to it, because it's just
not possible to read and absorb everything. We have to be picky. If
you can improve your writing, you'll get more and better responses.

The home service for dogs wasn't even as expensive as the kennel and the dog
was a lot happier.

Here's how I remember how to spell it. I think "chi hua hua" and hope I
don't ever say it outloud that way.

I wonder if she would have thought that was so funny if all of y'all had
been kicked out of the motel/hotel at that time of night. You probably
wouldn't have gotten a refund, either.

i'm neither. i needed to vent and i did. that was it. Thank you to
those of you who actually gave me advice. The rest of you, well, your
actually making me WANT to be a troll just because of how my rant/vent
has made everyone react. I wasn't intending to be a "troll" and I
took great offense when first called it. Now, however, I find your
responses rather funny. thanks for making me laugh today!
