Which are fake carbs?
It depends on whom you ask, there are a variety of opinions here on these
items. My take on them below: In , Eddie Type 2 stated | Are these "good" or "bad" or "fake" carbs? | Which should we stay away from? | | low-carb bread? -- I don't eat any wheat products, only liked my home made bread so don't eat LC bread | Atkins low-carb ice cream bars? -- OK in moderation if the SAs don't bother you | Atkins low-carb ice cream? -- same | low-carb milk? -- Hood's is wonderful, tastes great, provides calcium | low-carb chocolate milk? -- same except I didn't care for the taste all that much, prefer regular Hood's with a splash of daVinci Kahlua syrup | low-carb Special K cereal? -- never was much of a dry cereal eater so haven't tried this, I like some of the LC hot cereals, KETO and Flax-O-Meal are ones I recommend | low-carb Hershey Chocolate Bars? -- OK but the ZCarb bars taste better | low-carb Atkins shakes? -- never had one | Smart-carb ice cream bars? -- same | Kraft low-carb salad dressings? -- OK but my favorite dressing is regular Ranch, only 1 carb/2 tablespoons | low-carb beer? don't drink beer | low-carb barbeque sauce? yes, a good idea to add flavor to your meals, Jenny has a good recipe for this | low-carb ketchup? Yes, you can also make this yourself | low-carb peanut butter? -- I have always like natural peanut butter which is as low carb as it gets, don't need special expensive formulations | low-carb pasta? -- not that fond of pasta, prefer spaghetti squash | sugar-free jello? -- can't LC without this, I have it at bedtime every night, also good to take to potlucks, at Christmas I made a big Jello mold with SF Jello and frozen triple berry blend (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries) from Costco, something everyone can eat and you get a nice desserty treat | sugar-free pop? -- not a big pop drinker to begin with but I have discovered Sparkling Ice fruit drinks at Costco and Sam's, they have a smidgen of juice plus flavoring and Splenda in fizzy water, 8 calories, 2 carbs per bottle, and they are delicious, better than any pop | low-carb tortillas? never ate tortillas before so don't know but got some LC tacos, La Tiara brand and even my non LC SO who doesn't much care for Mexican food likes it when I make tacos with them | chicken wings with hot sauce? -- these are naturally LC and a staple for many LCers | | | Eddie | Type 2 |

Which are fake carbs?
It's so easy to just eat real food especially when you start LC out. Eat
meat, almost any kind, cooked almost any way you like it. Eat green salads, and some green veggies too. Take a multivitamin. That's really all you nned to be successful. Feel free to add a few LC treats now and then when you feel ready. -- JK Sinrod Sinrod Stained Glass Studios www.sinrodstudios.com Coney Island Memories www.sinrodstudios.com/coneymemories |

wrote: Are these "good" or "bad" or "fake" carbs? Which should we stay away from? I'm not an expert, but I'll share my personal opinions with you. low-carb bread? I've discovered, after some time on low-carb, that I have an intolerance for wheat. I have also noted that Sara Lee low-carb bread has 9 carbs per slice. The bread we buy for Crash, for less than half the price of a loaf of Sara Lee, has 18 carbs for two slices. You do the math. Atkins low-carb ice cream bars? Atkins low-carb ice cream? I've never tried either of these, regardless of brand. low-carb milk? low-carb chocolate milk? Hood's Carb Countdown "dairy beverage" has only 3 carbs per cup. I find that they've overcompensated for the lactose they removed by using too much Splenda. The regular milks are too sweet for me, but the chocolate is nice. low-carb Special K cereal? No clue. low-carb Hershey Chocolate Bars? I can eat them and my blood glucose is virtually unaffected. But I tend to binge, and I just can't have them around. low-carb Atkins shakes? In the past, I've had one every morning, and lost 40 pounds in six months while doing so. To me, they're fast and easy to make. Keto has some good flavors, as well. Smart-carb ice cream bars? Haven't tried them. Kraft low-carb salad dressings? Don't pay extra for the words "low-carb" on the label. Ranch dressing, for example, is naturally low in carbs. Just read labels, and you'll be fine. low-carb beer? No clue. low-carb barbeque sauce? I make my own. Here's where you can find Jenny's recipe: http://www.geocities.com/jenny_the_bean/recipes.htm We add a small amount of xanthan gum to thicken the sauce slightly. Her recipe for hot cocoa is excellent, as well. low-carb ketchup? I haven't tried it, but I understand that the Heinz version is good. low-carb peanut butter? Just get a jar of natural peanut butter, with no added sugar. low-carb pasta? Dreamfileds brand is excellent. Tastes just like regular pasta, and it has virtually no effect on my blood sugar. sugar-free jello? I eat it all the time. I put it in four small Pyrex glass bowls. When I eat it, I pour a tablespoon of heavy cream over the top. I don't care for the taste of it without the cream. sugar-free pop? A lot of people swear that their weight loss stops when they drink it. It's never had that effect on me. low-carb tortillas? I've only tried the La Tortilla brand. I found them to be gritty and nasty. To use them up so they're not wasted, I occasionally butter one, put it into a frying pan, then sprinkle with cinnamon and Splenda. chicken wings with hot sauce? Unless the wings are breaded, these are usually a safe choice..
