Default Wife is pregnant. Now to start adding carbs back

thin people who eat balanced diets are absolutely not in ketosis every day.
being thin doesn't mean you don't eat carbs. it means you have the right
genes or the right metabolism to be thin. it has nothing at all to do with
ketosis.

-kelly

You don't have to not eat carbs to be in ketosis. Those "color strips" that
detect ketones can be detecting ketones (burnt fat, whatever) from your body OR
your diet. Are you saying thin people both never eat fat, and never metabolize
it? If nobody but overweight people LCing went into ketosis, then everybody
would be fat! Ketosis is a perfectly natural process.

Bad advice. BAD advice. I mean, sure, you HAVE to let her eat whatever she
wants, because nobody's the boss of her, right? But if you sit back and

say
"Sure honey, Doritos for breakfast? I'll run to the store!" She'll HATE

you
when the baby is born and she has 100lbs to lose. Pregnancy is not a
free-for-all 40 week eating binge. It's when you should be the MOST

vigilant
about what you eat!

yeah, but shouldn't SHE be the vigilant one, and not her husband? it is her
body after all. anyone who gets mad at their spouse for "letting" them gain
weight has a lot more serious problems than being fat.

Ketosis is the body's mechanism for burning fat, period. Every
normal, healthy person who is not actively *gaining* weight is in
ketosis for a substantial portion of every day. Without exception.

no, Ketosis is a mechanism for burning *body* fat, not fat from food. a
normal, healthy person who is not actively gaining or loosing weight is not
in Ketosis unless they restrict their carb intake.

Actually, not true. Many people enter ketosis late at night.

where do you people get this stuff? most of the medical community considers
ketosis to be a dangerous metabolic state that can cause internal organ
failure, kidney stones, and gout. why is it that only atkins followers
think it's healthy and normal? the only places i can find statements that
ketosis is ok is on low carb websites that are trying to sell me something.

can someone point me to some real medical info regarding this? something
not written by someone who stands to make money off of the low carb
lifestyle, please...

Of course she should! But he asked how to help. And saying "Sure honey, eat
whatever you want, you're eating for two, etc" is NOT helping. Just IMHO of
course.

oh, you know, useless places like the Harvard medical school's website, my
own doctor... you know, all those respected medical professionals are just
quacks anyway, right? i mean, if they're not selling supplements or low
carb products, they must be wrong!

so what is the truth? please post sources, you have yet to show me a valid
source for anything you've stated.

You're confusing ketosis with ketoacidosis, which is life threatening.

Default Wife is pregnant. We have the plan

First off, let me thank everyone for their input. However, I would like to
clarify a few points.

People have been suggesting that "I let my wife eat this, etc." Trust me, I
don't control my wife nor have any desire to I am just doing some
research on her behalf while she does her own.

We have decided that she is going to eat more fruit, veggies, some whole
grain, etc. We don't follow the Atkins book 100% because we have found
better success with slight modifications for own body chemistry.

However, I cannot find anything that shows it would be unsafe for her to eat
around 80-100 carbs per day with most of the carbs coming from fruit,
veggies, and whole grain.

We are not concerned if you gains 25 pounds or so during pregnancy. My wife
has lost almost 70 pounds which puts her back at the same weight she was
when we were married. She just doesn't want to throw out all of her hard
work for the last 6 months because we have both made a committment to eat
better and healthier. If either of us thought just let her eat all the
carbs in the world would be the healthiest thing for our baby then their
would be no question to do that...

Hi all,

My wife is pregnant and has been on the low carb diet for 6 months now

with
great sucess. However, now that she is pregnant, I am looking for
information on adding carbs back to her diet without going overboard.

I don't think she should just eat all the carbs she can handle. I am sure
there has to be some level of carbs that is safe for our pending baby as
well as keep her from gaining too much weight during pregnancy.

If anyone has been through this and has advice based on their experiences,

I
would appreciate the feedback.

And of course she is going to talk to her doctor about it.

FF
