Body Fat Test
"Beeswing" wrote in message ... x-no-archive: yes I'm finding the standard weight-to-BMI charts to be worse than useless -- something that's been commented on a fair amount here. I tried the Health Central one one out, and at least for me it seemed to make some sense: http://www.healthcentral.com/cooltoo...s/bodyfat1.cfm It measured my bodyfat at about what I'd imagine it at and gave me a BMI that sounds like it could be reasonably accurate (22.5%). So having said that, has anyone tried out this site? Any thoughts on it? D'ya think it's any better than any of the other BMI guesstimates out there on the web? This site puts me at 19%, which is close, but a little low. THen there are these sites... http://www.biofitness.com/bodyfat.html http://www.he.net/~zone/prothd2.html http://www.fittec.com/bodyfat.htm |

This may be a bit of fun, but I find it hard to take seriously when it tells me I have 23.8% bodyfat. I notice it doesn't ask for your height. Can't work out what has caused it to give such a low figure - do my 6.25 inch wrists cancel out my 41 in hips and 24 in thighs? janice 233/161/133 ah ... in given your numbers you got, then how did I come up with 30.5% with my 37" hips and 23" thighs and 5.25" wrists... I just got 22% with 38.5" hips, 21.5" thighs, and 6.25" wrists. How reliable are those Tanita scales that measure bf? Going shopping for kitchen & bath and thought I might splurge on one. I have a lot of loose skin on my arms and belly - would calipers still be reliable given that? Jennifer |

I guess perhaps I did something wrong in putting in my data, although I tried it twice with the same result. I noticed it didn't ask for my height, which must make some difference surely. Anyway, not to worry - I'm not planning to make any life changing decisions based on the outcome! janice 233/161/133 |

Caliper Question: Can't a person just do a "pinch test" with fingers and how much flesh would constitute superfluous subcutanous fat? I just got 22% with 38.5" hips, 21.5" thighs, and 6.25" wrists. Body Fat Test

janice wrote: I noticed it didn't ask for my height, which must make some difference surely You're right -- since it didn't ask for height, it lacks much credibility in my book. I went there from an old bookmark I'd made. The lack of the height measurement hit me when I went there originally, but I guess I wasn't paying enough attention this time. Toss that test out, then. beeswing |
