a new phase for maintenance
When I first came to asd - oh somewhere about 9yrs ago, I was a single mom
to a preschooler, working full time, going to school and struggling with my weight due to lots of fast food and convienence food eating. Over the years I've totally changed my eating habits as well as learned to love exercise and have become very active. As my son grew and became active in sports, I didn't want to be the sideline soccer mom, instead I wanted to be an onfield coach. I've always liked staying one step ahead of my son and able to keep up with my physically active and fit husband. Now I've got this 13yr old son who is currently 5'11" and about 145lbs. He is active, fit and into sports. He has won the presidential fitness award for the past few yrs (and missed it a few yrs ago by 1 pull up...). I'm proud to say he also makes some very healthy food choices even when he's left to his own choice. (choosing salad over french fries, etc). We just returned from a 2 week vacation in the mountains were we spent every day mountain biking and hiking as a happy family. This year though, was the first year that DS has more stamina, strength and endurance than me. (granted, I'm a mere 5'4", 130~something nearly 36yr old mom). I realize I'm not going to be able to keep up with an active teen. My goals over the next several months are to 1. train for the 3 day breast cancer walk in October and 2. train for the Grand Canyon rim to rim hike in June 2008 (50lb packs on the back) and of course, boost my endurance and stamina up to continue to keep up with the boys I love so dearly. If anyone has any advice or encouragment for me - especially with regards to the back packing training... I'd love to hear it. -- Please help me with your donation http://www.the3day.org/tampabay07/jford |

They have a lot of good info for beginners (like me) and experienced hikers. Sounds like you're going to be pretty busy--good luck to you!
