Crystal light?
On Wed, 19 May 2004 18:16:59 GMT, "Evelyn Ruut"
announced in front of God and everybody: "Dawn Taylor" wrote in message .. . I can't stand to drink Crystal Light at full strength anymore, though -- it's just too damn sweet and too strong. I mix the Pink Lemonade flavor at 2/3 or even half strength and drink that. It's more cost effective that way, less cloying flavor-wise, and it helps me get plenty of water in during the day. Wow, I thought I was the only one who did that! The way they tell you to mix it, it IS too strong. I always make it much weaker and find it tastes better that way. I actually thought I didn't like the pink lemonade flavor at all -- I bought a canister of it, made some and hated it, so the rest was just sitting on the shelf for a couple of months. Then I got a very nasty UTI and got *real* sick of all the plain water I was drinking to flush out my kidneys. I decided to mix some very weak lemonade as an alternative and ... whattaya know. I found I really like it that way. Dawn |

Crystal light?

Louise wrote: Is this ok to drink? Instead of your daily water quota? No. In addition to your daily water quota? Yes. Nonsense. A little flavoring in water doesn't render it unhydrating. The oft-promoted notion that your body "doesn't have to process" plain water is bull****. It mixes with food and digestive juices as soon as you swallow it -- there's no "pure water" valve out the side of your stomach. Drinking plain water is a nice non-caloric habit, but it has no other special benefits. Some lowcarbers are stalled or thrown out of ketosis by the citric acid in many soft drinks, while others aren't adversely affected by it. Some people find that aspartame hinders their weight loss or causes cravings, while others are fine with it. (And some sensitive people get headaches, fuzzy-headed, or other unpleasant symptoms from aspartame, while most other people do not. The mere fact that unpleasant symptoms are nearly always reported to cease within a day or two of not using any aspartame, shows that the common claim that aspartame byproducts build up in your system as a poison/toxin is bull****. Either it builds up or it doesn't -- you can't have it both ways, and say it builds up but then suddenly disappears.) Personally, I found Crystal Light and pre-sweetened diet Kool-Aid to be way too sweet, before I realized I had a sensitivity to aspartame. I prefer unsweetened Koolaid and sweetener equivalent to 1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar (8 to 12 if using packets) for a half gallon, instead of the full cup listed on the package. Rather than watering down the presweetened, I get the full flavor without the gagging sweetness. I also save carbs by using 1/4 teaspoon of NOW brand stevia "potent white extract" powder (0 carb) with about a 1/2 teaspoon of liquid saccharin (0 carb) in a half gallon of Kool-Aid. The stevia has a strong sweet aftertaste that completely covers the aftertaste of the small amount of saccharin, and the saccharin provides the sweet foretaste that the stevia lacks. In Kool-Aid, I find this combo as good as Splenda. (stevia extracts vary very widely in strength, refinement and off-tastes from brand to brand. Other brands might not produce satisfactory results. As brands of stevia extract go, NOW "potent white extract" is well-refined, fairly cheap, and often found in expanded supplements/herbal sections at larger supermarkets.) I also like to mix flavors using unsweetened Kool-Aid with the aforementioned stevia powder, and a few tablespoons of DaVinci instead of the saccharin. Tangerine Kool-Aid with DaVinci SF peach syrup, or pink lemonade Kool-Aid with DaVinci raspberry. [Kool-Aid has or had a raspberry lemonade flavor, but it had a weird sulfurous (like hard boiled egg) aftertaste to me] -- jamie ) "There's a seeker born every minute." |
