Yeah, don't worry about it, just go with your plan. That's pretty much how
I started. Also cut out anything with corn syrup or partially hydrogentated
oils, which would probably limit upwards of 90% of packaged, processed
foods and junk food. If you want you can always refine your plan later on.

Add sugar to that list, and you'd be at 99.99%. The bummer is the
partially hydrogenated oils -- they are in everything.

Wow Saffire, congratulations on your new figure!

Thank you!

I haven't decided yet. I just wanted to do something simple, i.e. cut out
bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, sugar and alcohol. Is there any reason I
should not do this? I am not so stingy that I refuse to buy a diet book, but
I can't figure out which one would be worth the money and effort!

You can check websites (such as
www.atkins.com) to get more info. We usually
STRONGLY recommend reading at least one of the books because it's very easy to
get off-track when that track is not clearly defined. For instance, I can't tell
you how many people start to post here telling us that they are on a no-carb diet
-- and they really mean NO CARB, eating nothing but cheese and meat morning, noon
and night. That's because they are basing their new way of eating on what
they've seen on TV (which is usually GROSSLY slanted and often just plain WRONG)
and by gossip. Then they give up because it's too restrictive or because they
are severely constipated. Or they THINK they are not taking in any carbs, but
they are actually taking in a LOT of carbs because they don't understand what
they are doing. When it doesn't work for them, they tell everyone what a crock
it is and how it doesn't work when, in reality, they weren't doing it in the
first place. By understanding HOW a particular way of eating (WOE) works, you
are MUCH more likely to stick to it and do it RIGHT.

You are certainly headed in the right direction by cutting out the aforementioned
foods, and you will feel better because of it (after the first week, anyway :-).
I know *I* feel better than I have in YEARS -- low carbing has TRULY changed my
life for the better! This is a good group to stick around in for low-carb
support. It's been INVALUABLE in keeping me informed and helping me to stay
focused! Some people lose weight quickly, and others (like ME) lose it very
slowly, so it's good to know you are not alone, no matter which category you ar
ein. Most of us are pretty friendly (although we all have our days), and the
trolls are usually pretty obvious.
