There's conversions to mg/dL he
http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/20...illigrams.html

This doesn't work for everything else because the factor for conversion
depends on the molecular weight of what they're measuring; it works for
glucose only. So you might get more help in the UK diabetes newsgroup
where they'll be more familiar with the scales.

WRT to the glucose, 6.5 is a good number if it's an hour or two after a
meal, but not so great if it's a fasting number.

According to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists,
treating diabetes is successful if you keep the fasting number under 110
(6.1 in your units).

That's what they want to see in *diabetics,* more normal numbers for
nondiabetics fasting would be lower still, usually 80-90 (4.4-5.0 in
your units).

ALT is out of range which might indicate some sort of liver issue. If
it were me, I'd try adding silymarin (milk thistle) to my supplements
until my next workup.

Total cholesterol is high too. If you're concerned, or your doctor is
pushing for drugs, I'd ask for a lipoprotein analysis first to find out
if there's really a problem before they begin treating it.

The LDL is high, but you can't tell how accurate it is since it's a
calculated value, which are notoriously inaccurate. If it was me, I'd
ask for a direct measurement if the lipoprotein analysis weren't
forthcoming.

How long have you been low-carbing? Improvement can take up to a year.

Thanks Jackie. I will read it through.

OH! It was a fasting number. She also took blood to send away and will
contact me if I need a glucose tolerance test. I won't get the results from
that for another week or so.

Ok thanks. Sheesh I was strutting at 6.5 )

OK I will look for that. Oddly enough, a few weeks ago when I got the test
that showed up the cholesterol, I had a liver test at the same time and it
came back ok!

Well, we discussed it and she said it wasn't worrying atm. But if the
blood test I had a wee while later showed up as me being diabetec, the
whole thing would change and I would need to be medicated.

I have a long way to go for that then. I believe that low carbing will
help that yes?

Thanks Jackie, I have saved this too

Probably doing an HbA1c. It's sort of an indicative of average blood
glucose over the last 3 months (with lots of caveats).

Just so you know what the numbers mean when you get the results... under
5% means you're probably not diabetic. The AACE guidelines say
diabetics should be treated to keep their numbers under 6.5% and
diabetics working hard at it aim to be under 6% to make the "5% club".

Thanks Jackie No doubt I shall be telling you all when I get them
