Sorry to get so strong about it, but I crashed twice on a computer I use
sometimes that doesn't have broadband - first from a well-meaning friend then from that post on the newsgroup. But I do stand by my feelings about this sort of thing. On 12/2/04 10:45 AM, in article , "nck" wrote: This is an extraordinarily rude thing to do. When you force a sound-file on somebody along with your posting, you are taking up bandwidth and perhaps crashing the newsreaders for people who might not have the necessary broad-band connections. It is unnecessary and inconsiderate,so please don't do it. It is also annoying. Sorry to be so strong about this, but I am a little fed up with this stuff. thanks |

SOUND FILES
Additionally stationary and pretty graphics are also a no-no for any
newsgroup that does not have the word "binary" in the name. Many newsreaders can not handle them either. "nck" wrote in message ... This is an extraordinarily rude thing to do. It appears that other newsreaders are crashing as a result of the sound
files posted. Remembe, not everyone is using OE as their news reader. I am and it did not crash mine nor am I reading all messages in plain text. It is just plain bad form to post binaries (sound and html) in a text newsgroup such as this one. "Fred the Second" wrote in message news:asOrd.192164$R05.110883@attbi_s53... With Outlook Express you can click on Tools, Options, and the Read tab, and put a check mark in "Read all messages in plain text." That will ensure you don't have a problem with sounds, graphics, etc. Other news readers would surely have a similar setting. - Fred #2 "nck" wrote in message ... From there I can review it (or not) to see if it is something I want to keep. When I close my email reader the "deleted items" folder is emptied. A bigger concern for me is folks who insist on adding my email address to those "forwards" as Cc: and not as Bcc:. I would rather not have everyone receiving the junk email being able to see my email address. - Fred #2 |

Fortunately, the "forwards" around here tend to go to a bunch of people who already have each others' email addresses so that's not too bad, but I know what you mean. The problem is that a lot of people have computers now who really aren't into using them for much else and have time on their hands...it's the same crowd that used to send around chain letters. |
