What's your healthiest food list?
I'll start. What I want to do is list 10 foods that you would include
in a diet if that were all you could ever eat. This is a little nonsensical, I admit, but it makes you think in terms of a balanced diet. OH ya, no vitamin pills or other supplements allowed. All your nutritional needs must come from these 10 foods. Mine would be low fat and vegetarian of course. 1) Steel cut oats. Oats have good fiber, low, but adequate fat (3grams per serving) adequate protein, no cholesterol or trans fats, high fiber, are whole grain and thought to lower BP and help prevent colon cancer. My gosh they are tasty too. 2) Whole wheat bread- a little fat, lots of whole wheat, fiber, adequate protein. Give us this day our daily bread was a prayer afterall. The yeast also gives some B vitamins. 3) skim milk- essentially nonfat, high protein 4) egg whites- high protein, nonfat 5) blueberries- loaded with antioxidants, low cal, some protein, high fiber. 6) cabbage- loaded with vitamins 7) spinach- ditto 8) lentils- very high fiber and high protein 9) tomatoes- loaded with vitamins 10) brown rice- a staple that similar to potatoes has allowed entire nations to survive for years when little else was available. dkw |
