Hopefully they'll see the post and reply. I do remember they seemed to like the program. |

Is anyone here following the UK Slimming World diet? http://www.slimming-world.co.uk/access/default.asp I followed it for a few months last year, and went to classes for a while. I'm in the UK, by the way, where I think the diet and classes are mainly based - are you? As far as I was concerned, the "pro's" we The vast range of free foods you can have without weighing them. The healthy way of eating. Being able to cater for and eat with visitors without them knowing you're on a diet. The "con's" we The relatively slow rate of weight loss compared with when I count calories. This is totally illogical, but impatience for results is one of my downfalls, and if I'd carried on as I was going I would have reached goal long ago. However, 1 lb a week maximum turned out to be not enough for my liking. The restriction of some foods I was used to incorporating into my calorie controlled WOE - particularly sweet foods such as the cereal bar I have for breakfast every day. This led in the end to an inordinate craving for (and eventual bingeing on) sweet and sugary things, to a degree which I haven't experienced before. I know they allow anything if you count it as a "syn" but it bugged me that some of these foods carried points out of proportion to their calories. I found it so hard to trust the diet. I couldn't (and still can't) understand how one can eat all those unlimited foods and still lose weight, and yet they claim lots of successes. The science of it just beats me. Overall I have to say I liked the way of eating, and felt it would be a good way to eat for maintenance. What do you think? janice |

He's lost 12 pounds (men always lose faster) and I've lost 5 pounds. I had a 1 pound gain my first week which nearly caused me to give up there and then, and my second week I only lost 2 pounds making my overall loss in 2 weeks 1 pound. Yesterday when we weighed in we'd both lost 4 pounds - slimmer of the week yay!- Anyway, here's the thing, I find green days much much easier than red days so we were having all green days. My consultant suggested that my slow loss was because I probably needed to get a few red days in so last week we had 2 red and 5 green and we both lost the 4 pounds. And also I had been getting lazy about writing down my food intake and counting syns so I made an effort. Maybe you just need to swap around your days a bit see if that helps. And try and fill up a bit on fruit and veg, I can't stand most fruit but I ate an orange yesterday (first one in 10 years) and it was actually quite nice. Let us know how you get on. "Back to lurking now......" Sue |

Do you drink wine at all? And how many syns do you count per day? Sorry about all the questions but your replies might help me TIA -- English Rose Hi English Rose, Well today I had Alpen crunchy bran with a banana and milk for breakfast, some pasta and sauce for lunch, made with water, for tea I had chicken stir fry made with loads of free stir fry veg and free noodles (yet another green day), 113g chicken and a Schwarz Cantonese chicken stir fry packet mix (5.5 sins between 2 of us). I've also had a chocolate and orange hi fi bar as a healthy B, and a mug of Cadburys highlights hot choc for 2 syns. And a pear. And 2 rolo's. 2 syns for them. So that's around 7 syns today, 1 healthy A, 2 healthy B's and the rest free food. Sunday I'm doing red so I'll have the same breakfast as today, roast beef, veg and new potatoes for lunch and maybe a ham and egg salad for tea, or an omelette. Most days I use below 5 syns, which isn't deliberate, it's just how it works out, although I'm not at all bothered if I go up to 15. Also I don't drink wine, or anything else come to think of it hardly ever, but if I wanted a glass I would have one. Also I guess a lot of how your weight comes off depends on how much you've got to lose in the first place, and also my weight gains or losses show the following week. What I mean is I spent last week decorating and running around like a blue arsed fly, but the loss didn't show until this week. I'm quite convinced that if you don't "cheat", count your syns properly, and weigh out your healthy A's and B's, that this diet, sorry, way of eating :-) will work. Maybe you're gearing up for a whoosh, or maybe you just need to focus a bit more, that seems to be what did it for me. Hope this very long ramble on helps anyway :0) Sue |
