Obviously, I needed to mention the thread in this newsgroup where
somebody else brought up popcorn and Alton Brown's suggestions and a
lot of people objected to the staples.

That's the reason for my post.

Yes, you have to watch serving size -- note that that's for one cup of
popped popcorn. You have to use 1/3C of unpopped for 2 people and 1/6 C
for one.
