Default One med gone, two meds added

First, the good news: My doc has taken me off Metformin for diabetes.
The weight loss and exercise have kept my blood sugar well-controlled.
I still must check my levels regularly, and if the numbers go too high,
I'm to resume taking the medication.

But despite the massive weight loss and hours of exercise weekly, my
blood pressure AND my cholesterol have continued to creep up. I'm
already on Lipitor to lower my cholesterol, and my doc has added
another med, whose name escapes me.

And I'm to take an ACE inhibitor for the hypertension. I need to get
blood tests in two weeks to make sure the new meds aren't hurting my
kidneys or my recently-discovered-not-to-be-infected liver.

And I need vigilant about side effects, mostly headaches or dizziness,
which could mean that my blood pressure is dropping too low.

My doc also said it's too soon to see a plastic surgeon; I need to
wait until my weight stabilizes.

As always, YMMV.

That's great about the diabetes, Kasey. And, while it's too bad you
need meds for blood pressure and cholesterol, I'm sure they're much
better than if you hadn't lost the weight.

Your doctor's advice about the plastic surgeon fits with everything
I've heard. I think you need to stabilize and then stay at the same
weight for some while before doing that.

Well, congrats on the diabetes control! There may not be a whole lot you
can do about the cholesterol since there's a lot of genetics behind it,
moreso than diet or so I've read. I am blessed with genetically low
cholesterol, even at my highest weight my cholesterol was never an issue.
The breakdown of HDL/LDL is also pretty important.

Is blood pressure genetic at all? The 12/6 Time magazine cover story was
all about high blood pressure and had some interesting tidbits but it didn't
mention anything about genetics being involved. The article is he

That's interesting that your blood pressure did not come down despite
quite severe calorie restriction and huge weight loss. Completely
counterintuitive. I hope that the meds help, although statins do not
have a very great record of actually preventing death, as far as I
know.

FYI death is not a condition that is preventable.

It's great you've been able to discontinue the medication for diabetes.

I'm sorry to hear you don't have good news with the BP and cholesterol.
Hopefully you'll be able to see more positive results in the future.
