What strategies will you all be using to combat holiday weight gain?

- continue to weigh every day
- continune regular workout schedule but add 5-10 minutes more to all
individual cardio workouts (as opposed to spin class where I can't add
more) -- basically, do a little extra for the next month or so
- try to plan ahead, for example, I am going out to a holiday dinner
this evening so I ate a bit lighter than I typically do during the day.
I try to do this anyway but I am just trying to be extra vigilant
about it.
- keep the baked goods out of the house

Yup. I am just trying to be extra vigilant since there are extra
splurge meals this month. My goal is to weight the same 1/1/2005 as I
did 11/1/2004.

Amen to that! I did all of my cookie baking at my mom's--she has a huge,
brand-new kitchen. Three of us spent a day baking dozens of cookies and
never got in one-anothers way.

And all of the goodies went directly to my mom's freezer!

Why not donate the food to a local homeless shelter? Or better yet,
find some homeless people on the street and prepare them each a plate?
Better than throwing away perfectly good food.

I am so sick of buying food at today's grocery prices then throwing
out 1/3 of all the fresh foods I buy because we dont' eat them before
they go bad. I'm on a boycott! I'm sick of throwing my money away.

Same here. It's very hard to shop for only two people and try to get
"fresh" produce when you live in the middle of nowhere. Are tomatoes more
than $5/lb anywhere else? It is getting almost to the point where it will
be cheaper to get the salad with grilled chicken breast on top at a
restaurant than to make it at home.

They're not in season, that's why they're expensive. This time of year, I
don't buy fresh tomatoes. For cooking the canned ones are far superior than
the tasteless, grocery store ones. I focus more on winter produce: oranges,
pears, apples, brussel sprouts, green beans, cabbages, potatoes, etc. They
taste better now and actually have more nutrients than produce out of
season. (There's reasons why we eat different things in different seasons.)

This is the first year we aren't going down south in quite some time. The
plan is to spend time snowshoeing, skiing, and introducing my DH to
weightlifting. For the actual holiday we'll probably have an open house

for
any friends and acquaintances who have no one to spend the time with. We
did it a few years ago and asked that people bring either a dish, drink,

or
entertainment and ended up with quite an assortment of folks from a few
college students to some elderly friends with no family in the area. It
works out well for me because I'm always on the move preparing or cleaning
and I don't get much time to sit around and eat.

My plan is to increase my activities and have a few lighter than normal
eating days each week. Tonight my trainer said he wants me to focus on
increasing my exercise by just 5 minutes each day for the next few weeks.

I
had already beaten him to the punch starting on Monday

Jenn

I'm just getting by. I haven't gained any weight lately and I haven't lost
any. I'm just trying to slide through. I really, really hate xmas and to get
through without falling to pieces is a good thing.
