Our country weight-loss mainstream now seems to be SB-like low-carb!

Interesting - I have just looked at pages of our country
mainstream weight-loss organization (www.stob.cz) and found to my
surprise
that it has gone low-carb (or controlled carb if you wish).

There is even SB book review saying that SB represents exactly the
same principles that STOB is promoting for recent two years. So to
my
surprise, I was practically on mainstream diet last year (I am
a little bit dissapointed

What language is that?

English. Pretty good English for a Czech.

Wish I was trilingual and was able to read the page.

I expected this kind of turn-around. First they disparaged low-carb as
quackery, then they made a stink about how dangerous it is. Now that
people are starting to really understand that low-carb works and is
safe and that low-fat doesn't work and leads to poor health, the
mainstream has to find a way to appear to be on-board with low-carb
without admitting that they've accepted low-carb, and more importantly
not appearing to admit they were WRONG about low-carb.

Talk about walking a tight-rope.

The message was eat less fat and more carbs. Now it is eat less fat
and sugary snacks. (finally!)

Pretty soon they will say that they were saying this all along and
they will present the low-carb diet as safe and effective while using
different language to give the appearance that they came up with it
and that it is different from the known low-carb diets.

They've already been doing that for awhile.
In the 80's, they used to say, "eat complex carbohydrates. Avoid simple
carbohydrates."
Now, they still say, "Eat complex carbohydrates. Avoid simple carbohydrates."
However...
In the 80's, they defined "complex carbohydrates" as equivalent to "starches",
while "simple carbohydrates" were sugars.
Today, "Complex carbohydrates" are defined as whole, unrefined grains,
while "simple carbohydrates" are now sugars AND refined grains.
Potatoes, white rice, and white bread and non-whole grain noodles used
to be "complex" carbohydrates; now, they're "simple" carbohydrates.

That is
happening now to some degree. The South Beach Diet is essentially the
same as any other low-carb diet but couched in terms and with
conditions (specific fats and carbs) that the mainstream can swallow
easier than with the atkins diet. The basic principles of southbeach
and atkins are the exact same.

I'm sorry Cubit. I thought you were making fun of Mirek's English.

Take care,

Mirek's English is fantastic and is to be applauded. I only wish that
I was half as gifted in any of the languages I've studied!

Czech, however, looks really, really strange to a native English
speaker who has never seen it before. The all-consonant words (like
"smrt", the Czech word for death) are so different to what we
Anglophones are used to...
