Default Less junk food and more exercise

That is what I'm going to try, it has worked in the past and then old habits
come back and so does the weight.

I guess one thing working in my favor is that the Burger King that was within
walking distance from my house closed about 3 months ago so it will be harder
to satisfy that Whopper and fries craving.

Lots of walking and less junk food. I weigh about 190 and would like to lose
around 25 pounds by Thanksgiving. I think it is doable. If I can make it
throught he holiday season without gaining it back that would be great.

John...

To lose 35 pounds in seven weeks is pretty much impossible.
I am sorry to burst your bubble, but you need to set a more
realistic goal. I would suggest two pounds a week, and a goal
of Feb. 1.

Losing weight is actually a mathematical science.

The first step is to discover what your metabloism rate is. Go to
http://www.active.com/calculators/calories_calc.cfm for a pretty
good one.

I made a guess that you are 5'10 and 35 years old. I used your
weight of 198 pounds. These assumptions would have your
daily maintainence calories to be 2438. To lose one pound per
week, you must reduce your calorice intake by 500 calories.
If you add in exercise, as you have suggested, you can add to your
maint. calories and thus increase your weight loss.

As an example, if you walk for 30 minutes a day, you should lose
about 200 calories. By adding that walk you can now make your
maint. calories 2638. So, to lose 2 pounds per week, you should
consume 1638 calories per day.

You are right...stay away from Burger King. That Whopper
has 660 calories (760 with cheese) and the small fries have
250.

Take your time....
be patient...and you can do it...

You did not put the weight on overnight...
It will not come off that fast either...

I got on the scale last night and discovered that I weigh 198 not 190.
Oh well, just more to work off. No soft drinks at lunch today, just
water instead. Got to start somewhere.

I would make one suggestion. Set exercise goals and start to think of
yourself as an athlete. Once you start thinking like an athlete, you think
of how to make your next exercise better, and that goes for how you eat as
well. Even if you're just doing various cross-training for exercise, you
can and should set goals for total exercise volume per week and plan out
your week roughly. If you can concieve of entering races to do your best,
then go for it.

Dear Mr Stone

My experience is somewhat different. I exercise about 20 minutes a day,
have for many years. It was not junk food that set new poundage records, it
was:
1. My metabolism is not as active as it was in my 30's
2. All the 'healthy' food I was eating really had too high of an energy
content.

Once I figured it out, I quit having a large glass of orange juice in the
moring, stopped having fresh fruits at every meal, and finally I cut back on
the breads.
Believe it or not I have been reducing 1/4 pound a day.

Some ask if cravings are a problem, the simple answer is, no. If I ever do
I will have a SMALL slice/glass/bowl of the banned food stuff, and the next
day get back on the easy to maintain 'diet'.

So it isn't the so called 'junk food' that puts on the inches, it's
unrestricted carbs and high sugars that cause the problems (as well as a
slow metabolism) at least for me.
Cordially
