I too am watching my calorie count with eating only 1000 calories per day and I started walking ... still pretty slow at that but will build it up as I go ... I have lost 11 lbs. in 10 days this way ... I definately think that this is the way to lose and my drs. say that as long as I keep this up the weight will continue to fall off in the same way that it has so far ... I mainly make up my own recipes for the foods that I eat and I stay away from red meat altogether, except for occasionally ground beef ... I have considered having one of the weight loss surgeries but have no insurance right now and thought I might as well get started now ... not sure now about the surgery ... guess it depends on how the next few months go ... good luck to you and I will definately post more if you want! |

1500 Calories Per Day
Dan:
I just found this newsgroup today and I certainly agree with you - that the only way to lose weight is burn more than you eat. It's simple math. When I finally made a real effort to lose weight, I restricted my calorie intact (wrote down everything I ate) and bought frozen meals like Lean Cuisine to help me control the calories and portions. I lost 25 pounds. I allowed myself one cheat day a week - I called it Fat Friday and ate anything I wanted. I did find some great recipes - if you google low calorie recipes you should be able to find loads. LWF scooter1195 wrote: Dan Wrote: This newsgroup is DEAD! But I'll post anyway in the hopes there is another sole interested in losing weight by lowering calorie intake - apparently the most unpopular way to lose weight. Activity is booming on other diet newsgroups where they discuss the latest diet crazes. However I really believe it is a matter of simple math. One must eat less to lose weight. How much you can eat and still lose depends on your activity level. I've been eating 1,500 calories in the form of three 500 calorie meals per day. It is working. Lost 3 lbs. this week, so I will continue. I'm very interested in anyone else's diet experiences and I'm always looking for low cal recipes! Hope someone posts. Isn't it interesting that this group is so dead? No one wants to hear the truth that one must eat less to lose weight. They are all busy trying to figure out ways around this fact! Lol No wonder so many Americans are obese! I am on Jenny Craig at 1500 calories. I lost 30 lbs with them, went off the band wagon, but back on now and am going to lose the 100 more i need to lose. I completely agree with all of you at the end of the day you need to burn more then you consume to drop those inches!
I've always found it interesting that diets get marketed in different ways but the majority still cut approx. 500 cal/day. For example LA weightloss works its a great program I lost 25 pounds with it in under 3 months. It was broken down to a certain amount of startches/protein/veg/fat/dairy/fruit per day but in the end of the day the calorie count was always low no matter what you ate! anyway one suggestion on how to eat a full meal that healthy is to try vegatarian cooking. Esepeically low-fat vegetarian cooking (Moosewood Restauran Low-Fat Favorites Cookbook is GREAT!) for example most muffins are so fatty/sugary and not filling at all! They have a recipe that are some of yummiest moistest muffins I've ever had and are super healthy! PUMPKLIN OAT MUFFINS 1 1/4 cups unbleached white flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 cup rolled oats 1 egg 1 egg white 3/4 cup pumpkin, winter squash or sweet potato puree (baby food works great) 3/4 cup evaporated skimmed milk 1/2 cup unsweetened pinapple juice 2 tablespoons canola or veg oil 1/4 cup brown sugar 4 to 5 tablespoons apricot preserves (low sugar) preheat oven to 400 degree. spray or line muffins tins in a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, oats. In another bowl combine whole egg, egg white, pumpkin, evap milk, pinapple juice, oil, brown sugar. Fold wet ingredients into dry. spoon batter into muffin tins dot center of each muffin with preserves. Bake 20-25 minutes Per 3oz serving, approx 1 muffin: 170 cal, 5.4 g Protein, 3.9 g fat, 28.9 carbs, 0.7g saturated, 1.8g polysaturate, 1.1g monosaturated, 23 mg cholestoral, 200 mg sodium, 1.8g fiber |
