4 & 1/2 pounds in first 3 days . . .
I just started dieting Sunday (3 days ago) and for some reason it's working LIKE NOTHING ELSE has for a LONG time. I even tried lowcarbing and lost nothing and gave up after 6 weeks. I am eating a lot really, 1600 to 1800 calories per day.
Here is all I am doing: I eat Healthy Choice or Lean Cuisine Entrees for lunch and dinner with an ENORMOUS vegetable salad (hold croutons and cheese etc) I use the EXACT serving amount of full fat/full calorie salad dressing. I eat 2 and 1/2 cups of Kashi cereal and a piece of fruit for breakfast. That's a lot! I snack on either a piece of fruit OR a slim fast MEAL bar. in both the morning OR afternoon. What I think is causing me to lose weight so quickly is a couple of things. 1) no empty calories (unless you count slim fast bars which do have vitamins) and 2) I never eat after 4:30 p.m. I swear I think that's it. I do work out but I always have and had gained 15 pounds over the holidays! *YIPES I know that I had developed some really bad habits and I was taking in a lot of empty calories and junk and now I am not. I drink a lot of diet caffiene free pop and a lot of water. I did give up coffee until I reach my goal. I need to lose 25 pounds total. Does anyone have any thoughts? I know what I have lost so far is probably mostly water but I have had such a hard time just getting the scale to go the other direction until now. I am going to stick with this and see if I can reach my goal. I am almost never hungry. Breaking the eating at night habit is the hardest part. Angie |

But once I learned how to eat, I found the home cooking tasted better and had lots less sodium. I still keep a few frozen entrees in the freezer for back up, but usually do my own cooking. I am sure that the additional veggies are good for you, and you might even learn to like some of the lower fat/calorie dressing if you try. I love Kraft's raspberry vinagrette. Which type of Kashi do you eat? 2 1/2 cups sounds like an awful lot - you might eat less kashi and add something else to the meal to make it more balanced - maybe an omelette or yogurt. Eating small meals throughout the day is a good idea to keep yourself from every feeling "starved". That's when I am most likely to make poor food choices. Normally I would shy away from Slimfast products, but the new low carb options actually are not a bad choice. No doubt some of your weight loss is water, but if you keep it up, you'll be successful. What are you doing for exercise? Do you track your food at fitday? det |

I use the elliptical machine and take spinning, kick boxing, and weight training classes on a regular basis. I haven't been as good lately with my 'weight training' and have shifted my focus to a stronger cardio work-out lately. I think it's because of the extra 25 pounds I have picked up. I have worked out on a regular basis (at least 5 times per week) for the past 8 years.
I prefer the Kashi go lean cereal. I will add an egg or two and cut back on the amount of cereal. I think the bottom line is I need a big breakfast and decent size lunch. I think I do better decreasing my intake as the day progresses and like I mentioned before eating nothing in the evenings. I really think it's why I am losing weight. I used to track my food at fitday but I am not good at sticking with it. I tend to jot it down on paper just so I know in my head where I am. I absolutely swear that helps too. I have kids & I love to bake for them. I still want to bake for my family I just need to learn to not eat much of it myself (none now until I reach my goals and regain control). I like to bake for my kids who are extremely active so I don't worry about them yet. I would much rather they eat home baked food than candy bars and store bought junk food. IMHO - it's not realistic to not have something for them and think they will fill up on vegetables and fruit. They do eat that too but they want cookies after school. If I don't provide it they will get their hands on candy and other junk at school or elsewhere. At least I know they are filling up on food that doesn't have a ton of preservatives. I know that is off the beat and path . . . Any who - thanks for the support. Angie |

Hello i,
It looks like your still losing some weight if I remember right. Good job! Do you think or do you even care if you'll see your ab muscles? Where do you do your pull-ups? Do you have a bar in a doorway or how do you do pull-ups? I'm trying to start doing pushups to give me some chest work. I seem to lack the discipline to keep up with the resistance band and dumbbell workout like I had planned to at least three times a week, although I have been doing great on my cardio and walking. Sincerely, Paul 300/222/175 "Ignoramus16237" wrote in message ... What you are doing, as such, is not bad, except that I disagree with the use of junkfood bars. I like the fact that yo are eating an ENORMOUS salad. That's almost always a great idea. What you may find, after a while, is that if you eat too lowfat, you may become perpetually hungry. It is not clear whether you eat low fat (as you do eat fatty salad dressings etc). Also, do not expect to continue losing weight at the same rate as in the initial couple of weeks. Which is not a bad idea, as such, as losing weight too quickly creates more problems than it solves. What I think is causing me to lose weight so quickly is a couple of things. 1) no empty calories (unless you count slim fast bars which do have vitamins) please do count slim fast bars in the empty calories category. and 2) I never eat after 4:30 p.m. I a beautiful idea!!! I do not eat after 6pm. swear I think that's it. My biggest thought is that you appear to be doing it sensibly. You will need to make some adjustments as you go, to both your methods and expectations. I know what I have lost so far is probably mostly water but I have had such a hard time just getting the scale to go the other direction until now. I am going to stick with this and see if I can reach my goal. I am almost never hungry. Breaking the eating at night habit is the hardest part. Angie Just make sure to eat a decent dinner, it will become much easier. i 223/173/180 |

Liz Applegate wrote about it in the Feb. Runner's World. We hear about it at HMR all of the time. I still use HMR entrees & shakes as a meal replacement when I don't have time to cook or I'm trying to cut back my intake during my bloaty water retention times. In a pinch I've turned to the slimfast low carb bars. DH has had some success with Lean Cuisines. Jenn |

I don't want to run out of power before I finish the circuit and it's just enough to last me until dinner. I also send one with my daughter on the days she works. She was beginning to get into the bad habit of stopping at the convenience store and buying a candy bar to munch on while riding the bus home. The bars contain less calories and a lot more vitamins, etc than that candy bar. I tend to stick to some type cereal bar for the bike trails. Many of the meal replacement bars or snack bars melt inside a bike bag on a hot summer day - btdt. Beverly |

Junk food bars are really not going to feed success, while legitimate health-conscious meal replacement and snack replacement bars will. However, knowing what I know of Jennifer, she'd not go anywhere near junk food bars. -- ¤bicker¤ "It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring." - Carl Sagan People are, of course, welcome to place whatever irrelevant limitations on their ability to enjoy something that they wish. |
