As a kid I always put creamed corn on my mashed potatoes - none of
that gravy for meG

Me too! I love that!

Gosh, and its probably been 15 yrs since I've had that too.

Me too! Except I just had a small portion of creamed corn on mashed
'taters last month while visiting my nieces. It's great to go home
sometimes. It's still yummy s

Btw, my husband calls this "Depression food" Not the mental kind - the
1929 crash kind.

Well, that's one thing that was just a little before my timeg I wonder
if
that's where my mother picked up the habit? I really think it's because
she
didn't fix gravy too often and I had to find other things to put on the
mashed potatoes. Another favorite topping for them is sauerkraut. I
probably like it better than the corn.

That's the way I'm used to having my mashed potatoes - with sauerkraut. My
mom used to make pork and sauerkraut with mashed potatoes on the side.

We could make a PSA

Should we add potatoes to it?

*ducking*

That's *raw* potatoes ;-)

Sort of related: In NJ I worked with a nice young guy who had been
raised by his Chilean grandmother. I had just discovered and was
extolling the yumminess of Ben & Jerry's cookie dough ice cream. Joe
made a distressed face and said "You can't eat raw cookie dough!!" We
all told our stories of wolfing down our mom's dough before she could get
the cookies baked. (with 3 sons, my MIL had to make 2 batches to get one
batch baked, for instance)

Turned out Joe's gramma had told him he'd get *worms* just to keep him
out of it. Poor guy endured days of "and you believed that???"

We just made that in our crockpot last weekend. (I'm not sure if
potatoes are still part of this ongoing thread. We had sweet potatoes
in ours, no baked or mashed potatoes involved.) I've never even heard
of putting creamed corn on potatoes.

We did the pork, saurkraut and mashed tatters too, growing up. I remember
my mom making the sourkraut.

That's another one of my favorites taht I never even think about any more.

That - and my mom's corned beef and cabbage made in the pressure cooker.

It sure wouldn't take much of this stuff to add up to 300 calories!

Chris

Looking at the package I got as an xmas gift - it appears to be about 1oz of
cheese and 1oz of summer sausage and you're at 300 calories. Let me tell
you - 1oz of cheese and 1oz of sausage is not enough for me to consider a
meal.

Exactly! That's the problem with eating that kind of stuff :-). And
never mind the pecans and apple. Not bad food, just not a 300 calorie
lunch.

the handful of pecans is probably about 150 cals alone. One medium apple is
about 90 calories - (I think).
