20+ lbs in 4 months

slow weight loss but I have gone down in clothing sizes. I am still sticking with the Atkins book and induction. Original weight was 210+, now 190 and that fluctuates day-to-day. I started low carbing the end of May this year. Hey! Another slow loser! Don't despair. Slow weight loss is better than weight gain! Also, it's better not to weight every day. (That's something I need to remind myself of too. Seems like once a week would be quite sufficient, since my weight, anyway, seems to dance around quite a bit.) -- Jean B., 12 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts, USA |

Welcome to the Slow Loser's Club, (although 20 pounds in 4 months is not at all slow, actually it's rather fast). I'm a charter member, and there wasn't a whole lot of advice collected yet when I started LC in 1997. It took me 25 months to lose 43 pounds, which is a whole lot better than taking 25 months to *not* lose 43 pounds. I stalled after losing about 3 or 4 pounds in induction, for nearly 6 months at induction level carbs. I stuck with it because of the other benefits: huge reduction in arthritis pain, allergy symptoms, skin problems and digestive problems. I didn't start losing again until I upped my carbs to around 40g and started watching total calories. Tucatz -- Staying at induction level might be limiting your options, because working up to your personal level allows you a lot more foods, especially veggie and fruit portions, that don't have to be otherwise filled with fattier items. My main problem was dairy calories. Heavy cream in my decafs added up to too many excess calories daily. I had to switch back to milk. I could handle about 5 more carbs a day in a cup of milk spread over several decafs, better than an extra 700 calories or so in a cup of cream. 168/125/125 6+ years: LC since 2/18/97 maintaining since 3/17/99 -- jamie ) "There's a seeker born every minute." |

Welcome to the Slow Loser's Club, (although 20 pounds in 4 months is not at all slow, actually it's rather fast). Okay. How about slow relative to some of the folks here? I'm a charter member, and there wasn't a whole lot of advice collected yet when I started LC in 1997. It took me 25 months to lose 43 pounds, which is a whole lot better than taking 25 months to *not* lose 43 pounds. I agree TOTALLY! [snip] Really? I guess it really is up to each individual to find the formula that works. -- Jean B., 12 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts, USA |
