Default my BF has a numb upper thigh...

Hey people. I am kinda new to the whole Google groups things. I was
just typing in a search request for my boyfriend. He is in his mid
forties. He has been having a numbness on his upper left thigh. he
thinks it may have started when sitting at our computer -chair. It got
numb one day after sitting , then another. And he started noticing
it happening more often, but didn't like write it down, as he wasn't
thinking at the time that it would actually be something to worry
about. So a few days ago, he noticed that when the rest of the leg
woke up, that little area of his thigh did not. It stayed numb. So now
it is numb,.and has been for a few days. Has anyone experienced
something like this. Does anyone know if form sitting for a long time
in any position, if it can permanently become numb. He doesn't know
whether to attribute this to a spider bite, or possibly to our kitten,
who loves to scratch, bite, suckle, on any-walking thing. there are
marks like little dots, and mini scratches on the same thigh, and in
the same area. We have no idea. I saw someones message on scaticia,
and were wondering if this sounds similar. Also he is having a minor
weight problem (but don't tell him), and I read that losing the weight
may help alleviate some or all of it. Is this true. We have no money
to see the a doctor, (join the club right?) and are trying to find out
what may help, at least , help, without a physician. thanks people.
We will check back in.

Hi the

I really want to use my lightning fast search finger to help you but
the problem is I'm not a doctor. It's really unlikely that anyone who
answers you is going to be a doctor.

I don't want to scare you -- it really could be nothing, or it could
be an indicator of several serious conditions I am not qualified to
type the names of. You guys need to go to a clinic. There are a
couple of free ones in my city, and a lot of Borg doctors will give
you a discount if you tell them you have no insurance.

I agree with the other poster. Online doctoring is unwise. Find a way to
see a real live person who has degrees and generally is referred to as an
MD.

I used to have this pretty bad before I got orthotics (custom-made arch
supports), as a result of falling arches after I got a stress fracture
in my foot and had it mis-diagnosed as a sprain at a hospital. (They
eventually stumbled over it, after having me wear the wrong kind of shoe
for a while that made it worse.) In my case, three things helped it:
chiropractic adjustments to my foot and hips, wearing the orthotics, and
stretching the hamstring muscle for 60 seconds several times a day.

However, since this seems to have come up on him in a hurry, and you're
seeing what could be bite marks, it could very well be something
completely different. He could see a chiropractor to determine whether
it's sciatica or some other pinched nerve, but make sure to see one
who's willing to recommend an M.D. for things outside his own area of
knowledge. (In my experience, that's easier to find than an M.D. who's
willing to do the same in reverse, which is why I'd see them in that
order.)

hey, I totally understand your not being able to name anything out
there. Last night , while sitting in this chair, he propped two
pillows underneath his feet, and says it has calmed down a bit. So
there is my update. And we decided, that if it gets worse, and if the
time calls, we will go to the LA County hospital. So thanks.

There's a walk-in medical clinic on the corner of Sepulveda and Normandy,
that's either in Harbor City or Lomita (I forget). Its right off 110 and
Sepulveda. Its $35, the doctor there is great. If it ends up being something
serious and needs treatment you can't afford, then you can shoot straight
over to to Harbor UCLA (which isn't far away) if the doctor says you should.
In the meantime, you can go to a regular doctors office, not have to wait in
LA's emergency room for 15 hours, and not spend a lot. Holy Trinity Medical
Center, their number is 310-534-5765.

I took the x-wife and my kids there for *years* when we didn't have
insurance (I was a patient too). Very affordable.

Sorry, but this could be something serious, and you have no more excuses.
Get on it.

By the way, California has *great*Free* insurance for kids if you have kids
can't afford insurance. Its called "Healthy Families" (I think). The
democrats are trying to destroy that, by the way, so get on it right away if
you need it. Post if you need more info.

Disclaimer: See a doctor.

IMHO: Instead of spending money on a doctor, buy a new chair, and make sure
he doesn't have a wallet in his back pocket pressing on a nerve.

I'll bet chiropractors would love to play with this problem.

Yeah, those same "democrats" who are destroying by veto the SCHIP program?
In Texas, we call them "Republicans."

I'm gonna go with the consensus on seeing a doctor. Not a chiro or
a healer or anything other than a real MD. Lots of cheap clinics in
LA.

That said, I sit on a swiss ball. Might try that and see if it gets
better.
Less pressure and less ability to sit incorrectly.

Don't believe everything you read. The republicans are working very hard to
keep these programs up and running. So that they can push through with their
socialized health care "reform", the democrats are wiping out these programs
left and right. Why? Why do they want to destroy existing programs? So that
when these programs gone they can lie and finger the republicans.

This thread is moving pretty far off-topic. Therefore, I say this: vote for
the Free Beef Party. Free beef for all, pay for it by taxing sugar and beer.
