No weight loss this week.
My mistake, I incorporated nuts into my diet this week. Even though some nuts
are 'low carb friendly' I still find them as a huge trigger food. That and sunflower seeds. I really just can't have them in the house. My daughter doesn't care for most nuts and DH is low carbing too, although he seems to have much more self control than I do. DH was informed last night that if he wants to incorporate nuts into his diet that he needs to eat them somewhere else besides home. He is OK w/ it. I'm not sure he quite understands it, but he has been very supportive of our lifestyle changes. Lesson learned. This week I am sure to do better ~Kat "Mom, sometimes you are a pain in my neck" ~DD 4 years old. |

I'm not sure he quite understands it, but he has been very supportive of our lifestyle changes. That was a good move. There are some food that bug me that I either no longer purchase (which means they generally don't come into the house at all -- certain chip type items) or that I will buy but put in my husband's home office (chocolate type things usually). He knows to put them in a drawer or something. It becomes and out of sight out of mind thing for me and I don't go through his things so that works for us. DH has been supper supportive. I think that it helps that I do the menu one week at a time. I list some entree choices and he matches them to the day of the week. That way he has some say so (if he doesn't like the choices, we revisit them at that time). The only problems that I run into are weekend lunches (he would like to go out) and if we go out to dinner (he sometimes wants choices that I don't feel "safe" with). Overall, though, he's been really good. It sounds like you have a supportive environment too. That sure helps! |

What kind of exercise are you doing Jarkat?
Walking on the treadmill at the YMCA Using the nautilus equipment Swimming Water aerobics Family walks (slow because of the girls .. but it's still walking) Stretching at home every night. Teaching my 4yo how to stretch and using my 7 month old as a weight for me. lol. Stationary bike at the Y (but not often, usually I use this as a cool down) Elliptical Machine (Every day I add 1 minute) This does not include chasing after 2 little ones, housework, wallpaper stripping, etc. I'm pretty damn active. I'm considering taking a karate class, but not sure I can fit it in w/ family obligations and work schedules. Looks like fun though. How many calories per day do you eat? I have no idea, I don't count them. I thought that you dropped your low carb diet (SBD)? Have you switched to another diet? The best what I can call my diet is modified Atkins. I can't do induction due to breast feeding, and I can't say as low carb as the Atkins plan calls for. I'm also uncomfortable eating huge amounts of fat (I just don't care for it). I eat no bread, sugar, wheat, rice, or any other processed grain for that matter. Although I have bought a low carb cereal that I enjoy made w/ flax. I eat lots of veggies, 1 pc of fruit a day, legumes, beef, pork, chicken, fish. While I didn't lose any weight this week I have lost 11 lbs total so far. So it's working for me. My mistake is in thinking I can have a 'few' snack foods in the house. I then find myself snacking, and not hungry during meals, then hungry after meal time is over and snacking again. It's a bad cycle that I got myself into, and now out of. Are you sure that the nuts that you eat and sunflower seeds are low carb food? i Not now. That's why I will no longer be eating them. ~Kat "Mom, sometimes you are a pain in my neck" ~DD 4 years old. |

How many hours per day Jarkat?
1 hr to 1.5 hrs, depending on what my schedule is. This does not include the 15 - 30 min stretching session our family is having every evening. This does not include chasing after 2 little ones, housework, wallpaper stripping, etc. do not count that time... Well, we will have to disagree here. I put a lot of effort into my home and do almost all improvement projects. Some are a lot of work! I don't exactly include work time as part of my exercise time, but it still counts. try one day, it will be iluminating. I know that it is a real pain in the ass though, I did it just once during my dieting, last week actually. I'm not ready to go there yet ... but maybe at some point. What did you find when counting your calories? yeah, if you cannot deal with it, throw it out... I have to live with snacks at home (all kinds of sweet, chochlate stuff etc) but I never put it in my mouth to not be tempted. I wish I could say I could have it here for the rest of the family, but I can't. Maybe at some point .. but it's not now. keep going, weight fluctuates, especially for women. i Thanks. When did you start dropping weight? How long have you been at your goal? ~Kat "Mom, sometimes you are a pain in my neck" ~DD 4 years old. |

It sounds like to me that while you are on the right track with the food
and exercise choices that you need to start counting calories and/or doing some portion control on your intake. You would be really surprised at what an actual 2 oz "serving" of something is. YMMV but that's what works for me. But it's good to be reminded to do so. For me, there is no portion control w/ snack foods, even legal ones. It's all or nothing. I hope that as I develop healthier eating habits I won't have to be quite so black and white w/ this issue. ~Kat "Mom, sometimes you are a pain in my neck" ~DD 4 years old. |

I have a few household projects that really burn calories. One of them is trimming my hedges. I've got huge hedges, over 100 years old and over my head. I move the step-ladder, climb up it, swing the trimmer, step down, move the ladder, repeat. It's a 4 hour workout! I also did a project involving 900 pounds of tile and lots of stairs (tile saw downstairs, tile upstairs) and THAT was a hell of a lot of work. But even the everyday stuff can work up a sweat. We turned on our heat yesterday (FINALLY!) and we had to dust all radiators everywhere. And that means we dusted everywhere, in essence. I didn't get a workout in yesterday officially, but by the time I had done all the housework I was sweating and exhausted. That counts, believe me. try one day, it will be iluminating. I know that it is a real pain in the ass though, I did it just once during my dieting, last week actually. I'm not ready to go there yet ... but maybe at some point. What did you find when counting your calories? I use www.Fitday.com once in a while - usually when I'm stalled - to get a handle on portion sizes more than anything. Sometimes I just have to go back to measuring. I mean, 15 almonds is one thing, but eating several handfuls of uncounted almonds is another thing entirely. (I agree with you about nuts - we're done with almonds for now. I had the same reaction as you.) "Mom, sometimes you are a pain in my neck" ~DD 4 years old. I thought this sig was so sweet. I really miss my four year old daughter. Sadly, she's nearly 13 and has turned into the Ice Princess from Hell. She tells me she hates me almost daily. (Because I get her to school late most days. Her private school that I can't afford and that has no busing and is in another town and makes me not be able to take clients all afternoon because I have to stop in the middle to go get her. That school.) My boys still love me, though. Wendy, Mummy to Caroline (12), Gary (10) and Sammy (4) 244/191/170 |

My favorite is mulching the landscape islands out front. 50 bags, 50lbs each. Lug from the bed of the truck, cut open, dump, spread w/ rake. This is done 3 times a year. So its a rare workout, but a good one. But even the everyday stuff can work up a sweat. We turned on our heat yesterday (FINALLY!) and we had to dust all radiators everywhere. The biggest reason is that she needed to skip a grade and the school we sent her to is self-paced so she could work through 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in two years. She's in her second year there. It's doing just what we hoped it would do academically, but it puts her with children who have access to privileges we can't normally afford and the snotty element has gone up several points beyond what it normally would have at this age. I think she's pretty damn privileged, myself. For example, on this summer's home improvement we added a master bathroom to the house: but it's attached to HER bedroom, not ours. It just worked out that her bedroom was the best one to convert into a suite and we don't have a big urge to displace her. (She gets displaced for guests, though.) She also gets regular vacations to Florida and shopping trips to New York City and various other perks that I don't recall falling my way as a child. And then there's the dojo membership so she can study karate and the piano lessons and the gym membership... and I'm home after school so she doesn't have to trundle off to camps and after-school activities if she doesn't want to. This would all work better if I were able to build my business more, but I can't get the time in between all my exercising and all my child-care duties to get much client work done! (I need to go back on EC so I can get the energy boost to work from 9 pm to midnight again.) -- Wendy |
