Default Keto Breath - Needed? ..and other question(s)

Hi all,
I'm a new low-carber...
My first question is:

1) Is Keto breath needed to be in ketosis? I've experienced a metal taste
in my mouth like the 2nd day I started low carbing, but having had breath
issues since. Does that mean I'm not in ketosis? I still get small to
moderate readings on my keto sticks...

2) Would you agree that the idea of low carbing is to get into ketosis
then see how many carbs you can get away with before getting out of
ketosis? In other words, increase my carb intake maybe 5g a day? I've
been taking in around 15-25g but would like to increase while staying in
ketosis (if I'm actually in it).

Thanks in advance!

no. everyone's body excretes different ammounts of ketones. Some people will
be in ketosis and not even see it show up on a ketostrip, so it is not
required.

I certainly hope that you have read enough to understand that a low carb
lifestyle does not involve just going into ketosis, and then that's it.
The point of a low carb "lifestyle" is to live the way you have just
explained above, in a state where you no longer gain or lose, but are happy
with your weight and health.
What you describe is the CCL or critical carb level. Everyone has a
different one, and you are supposed to do what you suggest, add 5g of low GI
carbs per day until you find your level.

Please, read either Atkins or southbeach, and stick with the plan if you
really want to be safe. Even if you do not to all phases of Atkins, it is
safer to understand how it works instead of jumping right in and then asking
questions here, which could potentially be dangerous.

OK, good....

Well, I admit I haven't read any of the diet plans. What I am trying to
accomplish is TKD for its supposed muscle sparing attributes. I have
asked around many times on many boards and everyone basically says u need
to get into ketosis but take around 50g carbs before/during/after exercise
and thats all there is to it. I've heard that even Lyle's section on TKD
isn't that extensive. Dangerous? I hope I'm not damaging my body. One
thing I did find is that I need to up my fiber intake from 0 to at least 8
=) Please, any more comments you or anyone else would like to add - feel
free! Thanks!

5 carbs per week, not per day.

If I want to get out quickly is it safe to simply start eating carbs
unmonitored? like if I was doing 30g/day and the next day jumped up to
130 and continued it, would it be okay?

It's not a matter of safety, it's a matter of learning where your CCL is.
Reading my message now I see where it might be confusing, you eat 5 carbs
more every day but you up the level once a week, not every day. It takes a
few days for any change to stabilize so that you can tell the point where
you stop losing. If you just start eating a lot of carbs it's called going
off plan. You could perhaps speed things up by going up 10 carbs a week,
but 5 more every day will not pinpoint your CCL.
