If you have trouble "going" to the bathroom, what do you find helps? I
don't really want to take an over the counter remedy.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks
JD

Wheat germ, wheat bran. Either or both. A couple tablespoons spread on
food or just eaten. Low carb and works like a champ and is natural

Almonds, spinach, and brocolli tend to help me.

I grind flax and have it as a cereal ( with splenda and carb countdown milk)
each night.. Helps A lot, especially when I have had a real low fiber day..
As always YMMV and this is JMO

I never have had a BM problem. The only time I did was when I ate
red meat (I managed to get some grass-fed, hormone-free, free-range
ground beef) and lots of hard cheeses. I eat poultry and fin/scale
fish as my protein and get LOTS of green veggies, and some almonds,
without any problem whatsoever with bm.

Salads, fibrous lowcarb cooked veggies, nuts, flax meal, psyllium.
Avoid too much cheese, it tends to be binding.

It is, however, normal to go somewhat less often on lowcarb, as there
is less volume of waste to be processed. The medical definition of
constipation is painful or difficult elimination, not a lack of going
daily. Normal elimination varies from 3 times a day to 3 times a
week, and "daily regularity" was a phrase made up to sell laxative.

I use psyllium, an orange-flavored sugar-free generic metamucil type from
Walmart.
It doesn't matter how much fiber I get from veggies or other sources, I have
to take the psyllium or I regret it the next day.

squeamish warning
My problem isn't with constipation, it is with the consistency
(peanut-buttery vs non-peanut-buttery) and the effect that consistency has
on hemorrhoids. I find that without the daily psyllium the hemmies are
screaming!
