Why?

His idiotic diet with carb intake as low as 20grams has nothing to do
with the reassessment of good and bad fats and an attempt to remove
excess nutritionally negative carbs from the diet.

Atkins is a fool. It is well documented that he died fat, and no amount
of insistance (by those dull-witted Atkins adherents) that he put on all
that weight in a matter of just a week or so while lying in coma will
change that simple fact.

Everyone knows how many calories it takes to make a pound of fat, and
hospitals do not over-feed their patients by more than 15,000 calories
per day. Water weight could only account for four or five pounds of it
at most. His diet is dangerous, it doesn't work long term even for
Atkins himself and he deserves no thanks from anyone.

Bill

BTW, Why the upper case, are you going into competition with that % fool?

Totally exposing your ignorance about the diet. If you read anything
at all, you didn't get past the first couple pages. The 20g limit is
during induction, which typically lasts 2 weeks. The rest of the diet,
where the carb limit is much higher and includes all kinds of healthy
vegetables and fruits lasts a lifetime.

It was Atkins who for 3 decades championed the truth against morons
like you who not only won't listen, but distort lie.

Speaking of lies, this is a whopper. First, you act as if Atkins were
hidden for years, only emerging in death. The fact is, he was
regularly on TV shows as a guest. He always looked relatively fit. I
saw one of his last interviews, within a year of his death, with Larry
King. He looked pretty fine and not obese by any stretch of the
imagination.

It's not well documented that he died fat. All I've seen are leaked
reports of unknown origin that listed his weight. He was comatose with
a body that was failing slowly for 2 weeks. I've seen numerous
doctors state that it's quite normal for a patient in that state to
accumulate a large amount of water. Apparently, you want to turn water
into fat, but you can't.

BTW, where exactly does all your anger stem from? I mean I don't agree
with Pritkin, but I don't feel the need to spew lies and hatred.

4 or 5 pounds of water weight gain at most? Not when the body really
whacks out Bill. Mine managed 18 pounds of water weight gain in under
24 hours back in October 2001. In my case my body was trying
desperately to keep my blood pressure up by expanding my blood volume
by retaining every last scrap of fluid it could because I was merrily
hemorrhaging away half my blood supply. Atkins' body was undergoing
far more screwed up stuff, and for a far longer period.
It ain't normal, it ain't pretty, but it does happen.

I don't know anything about Dr. Atkins, but I do know that my father,
though he was just skin and bones when he died, was MASSIVE and looked
horribly obese, just from water retention as his system was shutting down.
When the funeral home had him prepared for viewing, he was once again skin
and bones...what you state above is absolutely true, he looked like a 250#
man but in reality was well under 200# once the water was removed by the
funeral home.

People with no exposure to what massive and rapid onset edema looks
like do
tend to disbelieve it - especially when Atkins is mentioned. It most
definitely happens though.

Look at the patient in Figure 2. Came into the hospital with
pneumonia and acute respiratory distress weighing 106.1 pounds. Poor
guy bloated up to 150.3 pounds 6 days into his stay and hit 182.8
pounds 12 days in:

Ow.

Of course it can...not.

I had severe pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy. My kidneys shut
down (just as Dr A's did on life support - it's a well documented
phenomenon) and I gained 17 kg (that's 37 1/2 pounds, for the
metrically challenged) of fluid in 6 days before they decided that it
was too dangerous for the pregnancy to continue. We *know* it was
just fluid, because as soon as my daughter was delivered my body
dumped all that fluid over the next 2 days.

It happens. Live with it.

You obviously have never worked in a hospital's Intensive Care unit then if
you believe that about water weight.
