B12 has nothing to do with low energy! When the elderly complain about low energy one treatment is a B12 injection, so yes it does have something to do with low energy. The problems with B12 seem to be lack of it in a vegan diet (easily handled by eating meat - vegan is as extreme as meat-only) and absorbtion getting worse as folks age (easily handled by injection but under the tongue tablets seem to get good enough absorbtion). Every couple of years I get a pack of sublingual B12 tablets or drops and see it it improves my energy. If it does that says I had a shortage before I took the supplement. If it doesn to that says I did not have a shortage before I took the supplement. So fat none of the attempts have given any change so so far I have not yet had a shortage. Just how good an idea it is to have a shortage before taking supplements, I'm not sure. Maybe the B12 in my daily multi is absorbed enough to head that off at the pass. |

They're surprisingly effective at making you feel more energetic. |

Given your extensive posting history on diabetes support groups and extremely small posting history on low carb support groups I can see the bias you're coming from. The stance would even make sense if cross posted to a diabetes support group but it wasn't. History says those who go all meat for low carb reasons crash and burn and disappear. It is thus just as extreme as vegan. It's a tactic based in ignorance and extremism, and while there are vegans who do it for long term reasons I've yet to encounter any non-diabetic who had any long term plan in mind when doing it. More importantly people who have no clue whatsoever about what low carbing actually is claim it's no carb or all meat. Once again all meat is at least as extreme as vegan for low carb purposes. Remember that in low carb there's no medical reason psuhing the non-diabetics among us towards all meat and very many reasons pushing us away from it. The simplist of those reasons is the actual directions as written in the actual books. |

The stance would even make sense if cross posted to a diabetes support group but it wasn't. History says those who go all meat for low carb reasons crash and burn and disappear. It is thus just as extreme as vegan. I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were saying that vegan was as extreme as 'meat-only' where it meant simple vegetarianism, aka giving up meat only. I thought there were implied unstated words since I didn't see, still don't see why one would throw 'eating meat only' in at that point. I don't eat a 'meat-only' diet. I don't know anyone who eats a 'meat-only' diet. Obviously those are the two potential theoretical extremes, I guess. I also guess I was being naive. But, I do know vegetarians, vegans, low-carbers, lower-carbers and low-spikers. I don't have a Way Of Eating that is extreme in any way & I certainly don't advocate one for anyone. Heck, I don't even approve of 'diets' or like the fact that that word meaning 'what one eats' is useless now. For example, recently we had weekend-over company. The last time they were here, or we were there also, they were vegetarians. We knew that they had moved on to being vegans, but we hadn't been together & eaten together since they had, if you see what I mean. I knew already that the chocoholic of the couple preferred dark chocolates, as do I, and I asked her if she had any trouble finding dark chocolates that were absolutely dairy-free. She then proceeded to tell me all weekend long what dark chocolates 'have milk in them' and which do not, but more emphasis on those that do. I was just making polite conversation with her, I thought, about a shared passion - dark chocolates but I came to wish I had never brought it up. Sorry that I misunderstood what you said. And, it is true that mostly I lurk here only. -- : ^ DonnaB * http://tinyurl.co.uk/h193 http://tinyurl.co.uk/wdp8 http://tinyurl.co.uk/byv9 |
