Default Broke through a barrier

Finally! For the past two weeks I've held steady at 230 lbs (15 lb
weight loss). I managed to hold on to my resolve even through a trip out
of town where we were driving for 8 hours one way. Generally I take
lots of snacks to get us through a trip like this. This time I made a
bunch of turkey sandwiches and some english muffins with a little peanut
butter. I didn't gain anything during the trip but didn't lose either.
Today I had lost 2 lbs. Amazing what a relief that is! Unfortunately
I've hurt my leg so walking on the treadmill has been postponed for
about a week then I'll have to begin slowly so that I don't reinjure it.
I'm going to compensate with some pilate type exercises.

For the moment I've found a solution with my husband's picky eating
habits. For breakfast he gets two english muffins with a teaspoon of
peanut butter on each, two soft pretzels for a snack and a turkey
sandwich on wheat bread with lf mayo for lunch. Then for dinner we
generally have chicken/fish/pork tenderloin, brown rice and a salad. I'm
managing to keep his calories below 2300 although the fat is a little
high at this point at about 33%. However, at 260 lbs (he lost 3 lbs
recently too!) he is losing weight and not feeling deprived. By the time
he hits 245 lbs I hope to have cut the fats down without his noticing.
(Please don't send me emails insulting him because I'm having to offer
more support than you think I should. I had enough of that the last time
I posted. I just want to be able to share with you and get some support
and offer support so I'm trying one more time).

I think it's a good thing that you're dieting together. If you have always
been the one mainly responsible for preparing and serving his meals, there's
no reason that shouldn't continue just because you're dieting. I guess the
only pitfall for him is what would he do if you weren't around to do it for
him?

Quick advice - is there any way to migrate from english muffins and white
bread to a whole grain bread? Also maybe find something besides the soft
pretzels for a snack (apple w/ lf cheese, yogurt and fruit)?

My own DH came to me today and said he needs to lose some weight before he
leaves for an out-of-state job this summer. He wants to start eating the
same meals I do (mucho veggies, grilled/broiled lean meats) including giving
up all sugar, bread, pasta, and rice. He read my South Beach Diet book - on
his own rather than have me summarize it for him and has decided that it's
close enough to my WOE that it would be less cooking for me if he followed
it. I'm going to join him in phase 1 for the next 2 weeks since for me it
only means giving up a few things (fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese) for a few
weeks and it might be good for my insulin resistance.

It's still going to be his responsibility to exercise and he will have to
deal with his own meals on the weekends when I'm teaching my grad students.
We're making a weekly meal plan and doing the shopping and advanced cooking
tomorrow.

I hope your husband realizes and appreciates what you're doing for him (or
for the both of you!)

Thanks, I think having each other for support is a huge help and you're
right, I have always been the one to prepare the meals in our family.
Primarily because I can't stand Hamburger helper ;-) If I weren't
around, he'd live on HH and peanut butter, I would suspect.

I'm sure I could get him to eat whole grain bread. I don't care for it,
but then I'm not eating it. I'll give it a try. I figured the fruit and
yogurt, etc. would come at the next stage which he should probably reach
by the first of May.

Its great that he has someone that he can turn to when he decides he
wants to diet. When I was a 18-20 my father and I went on a diet
together (several as a matter of fact, including Atkins). My mother was
the chief cook and although she never needed to diet and my brothers
didn't diet, she would always read our diets and prepare meals that met
our requirements. Her support was the reason we were successful.

You're right, and since he's begun to see the weight loss he's become
very diligent about exercise. He's on the treadmill every evening and I
can see changes in the way he eats when we do go out. This past weekend
when we were out of town he chose catfish rather than country fried
steak and gravy.

I hope your husband realizes and appreciates what you're doing for him (or
for the both of you!)


He does and he makes me feel good about my weight loss as well. We're
doing well for each other this time around. Good luck to you and your
husband as well.

Congrats on the 15 pound weight loss and maintaining it. I hope you and

Congratulations Julie. You're doing great and I hope the leg heals quickly.
