They can't resell the item, and there was apparently nothing
wrong with the jeans when you bought them. And how can you return something
like this in good conscience? Am I the only one who finds something wrong
with this?

He only lost a couple of pounds, that alone wouldn't be enough to merit the way
they stretched out. If I find something to be defective after a single washing,
I'd return it too!

Of course they are. They force their suppliers to take back merchandise
under most any circumstances, so their net cost is essentially zero,
plus they get a happy customers. Of course they screw over the suppliers
in the process...

Thank you.

The fact that with only 5 lbs lost they went from not so snug to where
I could fit my forearm down the side beltline in only a week indicated
a problem. Plus, it's been my experience that jeans tighten up slightly
when washed and dryed. These had gone the other way, indicating the
sewing or the fabric was breaking down quickly.

As far as my conscience - I'm a disabled combat vetran with 5 kids
trying to survive on a disability pension in a city with a high cost of
living (Denver, CO). The more I can stretch my funds efficiantly, the
better I can provide for my family. Throwing away a 1 week old pair
of jeans or blowing $6 on a belt just goes against good judgement.

Heck that's why I shop at Wal-Mart in the first place (despite my hatred
of how they treat employees) is to get as much from every dollar.

That's also why I'm moving to Wichita, KS next friday - to lower my
cost of living (by about $250/mo) so I can spend the $$$ on the kids.
Christmas this year should be the best in a while - According to my
budget, I'll have $110.00 to spend for each kid.

Congrats on the wight loss. As for wal-marts customer service, I always
found them willing to exchange, or even return pretty much anything with or
without reciept. Thier refund/exchnage program is excellent, but I have
never heard anything quite so wonderful as taking back a pair of worn jeans.

On Jan 9, 2004 I weighed 307 lbs. I went to Wal-Mart and bought
a snug fitting 48x30 pair of jeans. Last week, at 207 lbs, I went back
and bought a pair of not so snug 36x29's.

A week later I weighed 202 lbs and those not so snug 36x29's had
stretched a bit and been washed once. I could now fit my arm between
my hip and the jeans! I had shrunk and the jeans had grown!

I went to the mens dept and explained what had happened. I had long
since thrown away my reciept.

They congratulated me on my weight loss and offered to exchange the
jeans I was wearing with a smaller pair on the spot! All I had to do was
pick out a new pair (34x30), try them on (perfect fit) then remove the
tags and take the tags and my old pair up to customer service.

Customer service processed the exchange with a smile. No hassle!

Simply amazing for a $12 pair of Wrangler jeans.....

Ken - 105 lbs down, 27 to go - now wearing target size......

Congratulations on you weight loss. But I don't get it -- why should a
retail store accept an exchange for used clothing items that have been worn
and washed, just because the customer has done something to make them no
longer fit? They can't resell the item, and there was apparently nothing
wrong with the jeans when you bought them. And how can you return something
like this in good conscience? Am I the only one who finds something wrong
with this?

I think maybe you missed the part where the pants *stretched* after they
were washed. Even with the OP's weight loss, unless a vacuum was involved,
the only way the OP went from the pants fitting when purchased and being
able to fit an arm down the pants is that the pants did not survive their
maiden voyage in the washer as one would expect.

And yes, I would expect a retailer to take the pants back in that
situation. If nothing else, that gives them a motivation to talk to their
supplier about quality control.
