A bunch of morbidly obese contestants, some of whom may already have
developing health issues, suddenly subjected to an intense, take-no-
prisoners physical regimen. Seems like it's only a matter of time
before one of them falls over.

What would be the ramifications for the show if/when this happens?

They probably signed a detailed agreement covering such things.

I would guess the estate would get a settlement of moderate size.

I think the show would go on. Mortality from obesity itself is high.

This is actually not likely to happen on Biggest Loser. Exercise-related
death (e.g. fatal heart arrhythmia, heat stroke) is rare, even for fatties,
and you can add medical pre-screening and (I am guessing) on-site emergency
preparation to prevent death from most potentially fatal events.

Pepsi mention Survivor and Greatest Race. IMO Survivor is #1 most likely to
have a fatality; I think they've had a couple of close calls already. Hell,
if Steve Irwin can die like he did . . .

I'd even bet a fatality is more likely, contestant per contestant, on "Deal
or No Deal".

What would really be fun is a nice aggravated battery on The Bachelor.

I've been thinking this since reality shows first started. I'm
surprised someone hasn't died yet on shows like Biggest Loser, Amazing
Race, or Survivor. I doubt that it would change much, (the muder of a
guest on the Jenny Jones show didn't have much of an impact on talk
shows), but it's bound to happen sooner or later.

What would happen? They would bury them of course. Was that a trick
question? Of course they would weigh them first. dkw

They already had a couple of contestants get sent to the hospital.
It's always possible that one might die, but given the care they take
and that they have people watching them all of the time it's unlikely
to happen. If someone did end up having a heart attack (but not dying)
you could expect them to either change the training regime or set even
higher physical standards for the contestants. I do think the show
would go on since they have shown themselves to be responsible in who
gets on the show.

They are checked out by Drs before they're allowed on the show....and
probably closely monitored, but seeing that wouldnt make good TV.
