I will comment I also saw McDonalds have this "lifestyles" menu
handout, which explains how to cut calories, fats or carbs. The low
carb approach is nearly identical to Burger King's but they don't have
it as an actual configuration you order and haven't made any attempt
to advertise it. In other words, they make you work more at it to get
it. As far as I know McDonald's won't serve it in a separate
container. Please feel free to comment.

Anyhow, onto a few comments regarding these.

Subway:
They added two new wraps to the menu. I tried both, and they are
pretty good. If you don't mind the whole grain wrap taste (I kind of
like it), they are good. They do appear on the smallish side (the
wrap itself, and also the amount of contents), but still I found them
pretty filling. For me, however, it isn't these two wraps that have
my interest, but the fact you can use the wraps as a replacement for
the bun in a small sub. This is what interests me. These wraps, in
this regard, are VERY helpful with any diet (I am assuming their don't
have a larger fat content to them than the bread). This way, you can
a more complex carb. So, do the low fat sandwich in these wraps, and
you get an additional benefit. Atkins friendly will benefit any diet
this way. If there is more fat in the wraps than in other bread,
please let me know. One warning here, and Subway makes note of it,
the wraps are NOT for the induction phase of Atkins.

7-11:
They had a "Join the Atkins Revolution" sign up at their store. I was
curious what that was. Well, they are stocking the Atkins chips and
other snacks at their store. For a low carb dieter, this is a good
thing. For low fat dieters, I did see a low fat capachino drink being
offered by 7-11.

Burger King:
Their big low carb push is the bunless Whopper platter. This includes
the chicken Whopper, by the way. You do need to request catsup and
mayo separately. This item is NOT for anyone who isn't dieting.
Missing the bun makes it not quite a burger. BUT, for a low carber,
this helps. And it makes dieting more tolerable (It actually is not
too bad, if you add a packet of catsup and mayo to it). The fact they
include a chicken whopper on the menu is also a boon for those who
want to cut fat to. This REALLY could use a low carb (and/or low fat)
condiment to put on top. Without something on top, I am not sure how
good it would be. I do hope it stays, however, as an option for
people trying to diet.

Anyhow, I am glad that the low carbing is getting some play in these
places now. It offers a balancing point to the low fat mantra that
has run a bit amok, to the extent that unhealthy carb consumption has
increased (please ignore this rant if you disagree). I will also add
that you can easily adjust the low carb diet to cut fat and get an
even more beneficial low fat food also. If you go low fat, watch what
kind of carbs you get. I won't say any of these foods are going to
win over non-dieters, but it makes dieting more manageable. Glad to
see finally the food industry is listening.

Just my 2 cents, please comment...

Yeah - the new wraps you mentioned have 430 and 480 calories, and 25-27g of
fat. I'm guessing not everyone looks beyond the "LOWCARB" sign to check out
actual calories and fat content.

Yup. I get the wrap with turkey breast and ham, I still get cheese though.
Only comes to about 380 calories and pretty darned healthy.

But for someone eating three meals a day, that easily fits into most
lowcarb meal plans. It's actually one instance where one doesn't
have to look much farther beyond the "Lowcarb" which is refreshing.

I see, so by being 100 calories less, it's healthier. Got it.

Absolutely. As I've mentioned in other posts, I've lost a whole lot of
weight in the past month, and the only food I've eaten that's not "from
scratch" is a Subway low-carb wrap two to three times a week for lunch. At
480 calories and 8 net grams of carbs. it's ideal. Say, maybe I could be
Subway's low-carb "Jason!" :-)

The point of low carbing is that isn't the issue.

How many calories does the wrap itself have, and fat?

Hey, Nina. I was wondering where you'd gotten yourself off to. How have
you been? Still giving the world a run for its money, I hope.

BTW, long time ASDers, what ever happened to the other nina, with the little
n?

Don't you mean Jarrod? Well, unless you mean you are going to wear a
hockey mask and scare customers into low carbing for Subway.

For someone who is trying to lose weight, 100 calories DOES count. And it's
not just the calories, in the wrap I eat, there's half the fat of the other.

nina went back to sw-land and to school. She has popped in from time
to time but I believe her real life has taken a turn for a different
lifestyle and dieting isn't her #1 priority as it was when she was
here. But she was doing well last time she checked in and
maintenance was suiting her well with her school lifestyle.

I'm glad to hear it! It's so good to hear of someone whose been able to
"move on" and keep the weight off without having to be obsessed about it
forever.

It's salt, not sodium. If you were eating sodium you would be dead.
