Feel cold if you've eaten too little?
Yesterday I ate some leftover veggie and chicken stir fry for breakfast,
about a cup and a half. Then I didn't eat again the rest of the day, I was really busy. Last night at karaoke I was _freezing_ while everyone else was complaining about the heat being too high. Is it possible to feel cold just because you didn't eat a lot that day? My instinct is to think that it must have been something else, because one day of light eating doesn't seem drastic enough to affect my body like that. -- Michelle Levin http://www.mindspring.com/~lunachick I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws. |

It is completely normal and should be expected when you do not eat. That's what they mean by "slowing metabolism". Actually, some theorize that it is a good thing and helps prolong life. I fast on Thursdays and on some Thursday nights I experience the same coldness, so I wear socks to bed. There is nothin wrong withsoever with this phenomenon. i I hope you're right, I was afraid my perpetual winter sniffles was turning into something worse. -- Michelle Levin http://www.mindspring.com/~lunachick I have only 3 flaws. I fast on Thursdays and on some Thursday nights I experience the same coldness, so I wear socks to bed. There is nothin wrong withsoever with this phenomenon. i I hope you're right, He or she is absolutely correct. Your body heat is generated by your cells "burning" (metabolizing) sugar. When you don't eat, there's less sugar available to burn, so heat production goes down. I was afraid my perpetual winter sniffles was turning into something worse. I hope not! Please be sure to take vitamins or at least eat lots of leafy greens and other nutritious stuff. Dieting stresses the whole body, including the immune system, though some people report a dramatic reduction in illness when they are low-carbing. |

I often get a cold, shivery feeling when my blood sugar gets too low. In fact that's one of the big tip-offs to me it's happening (that and I get whiny/cranky.) Dawn |

I feel cold ALL THE TIME yet my thyroid was in the range of 'low normal' when I was tested. I never got the pills to help my thyroid out to at least 'normal normal' (LOL) which I could not understand because my sister and my nephew both need them and my mom had to take them for her hypothyroidism until she died. I never feel totally warm until the heatwaves in the summer. |

I seem to recall a few times feeling warmer after eating a meal that had some good fat in it such as olive oil in a salad. It was like my body was burning off the fat or something. A kind of thermal effect. I will have to keep note of this for some time and see if it continues each meal. |

I ate normally today and didn't get cold. *shrug* There's something called the "Thermic Effect of Feeding" (TEF) TEF accounts for something like 5-10% of your metabolic rate, I believe (haven't looked this stuff up in awhile) Anyhoo, I think that's why they (whoever 'they' are) thought that more frequent meals during the day would increase metabolism (with the TEF jumps each time). However, I believe that it averages out that it doesn't matter whether you have 3 meals or 6, the overall jumps form TEF end up the same. You're a snacker, right? So perhaps your body was just reacting not not being fed in constant little bits. Just a theory. Cheers, Nina delicious! evil! calorie free! http://www.theslack.com |

My sister said I was cold that night because I was so much skinnier and didn't have my "coat of fat" anymore, lol. She was just being cute though. -- Michelle Levin http://www.mindspring.com/~lunachick I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws. |
