Sue,

Elsewhere on this NG is a post I sent regarding Low-Carb and fibro. I
have lupus and fibromyalgia (muscle pain) is one of the effects.
Low-carb was and is endorsed by my medical professionals named in the
other post. If I stray from good eating habits I pay dearly for the
experience, both in weight and pain.
Good luck,

George

My doc said that fibro is diagnosed by ruling out other conditions such
as lupus. There is no definitive lab test or xray for fibro but, the
aforementioned "tender points" theory seems to be the closest the docs
can come at this point.

Those of us with fibro do wish that it is a misdiagnosis. So that we have
something that is curable, instead of a chronic life-long disease of poor
sleep, pain, fatigue, and cognitive dysfunction.

Thanks, George. Yes, I saw the other post. Several years ago I perused
alt.med.fibromyalgia. I only lurked as that group is very intense. At
least it was at that time. I haven't been back. I remember someone
posting about their success with LC in AMF. The resultant flames were
beyond cruel. It was that person's post that alerted me to the
possibilities of LCing and fibro. I was pro low fat and anti low carb
at the time but was willing to try anything.

It's sad that all fibro sufferers can't have the same relief that LC
gives you and me. It's definitely a YMMV thingie! I have the actual
syndrome (FMS)...not just muscle pain. The sleep disorder that's part
of the syndrome was/is the biggest issue for me. LC improves my sleep.
Improved sleep improves all of my FMS symptoms. While that makes my doc
happy, what he really likes is what LC does for my lab results!

My sleep is improving, somewhat. Its getting better and better. Others with FMS
told me about Low Carb and how it improves FMS patients. Other diets suggested
to me was the Zone, or The Suzanne Summers Diet.

Someone a couple weeks ago, told me about a new testing for Fibro patients. Yet
its not available in the US yet.

Here is a link that describes it.

Yvonne...does low carbing help your symptoms?

Aloha...Sue

Yes, very much so....at first. Then my symptoms came back with a vengence.
Since then, I've been diagnosed with Celiac Disease and have cut out gluten
entirely--my symptoms have decreased and I'm back to losing weight :0)

I think sugar and HFCS causes my pain levels to intensify where painkillers
don't help at all.

I know a few people with fibro that have improved on a low carb diet.

Yvonne
