Default New Shoes

I was shopping at a mall last weekend. I came across this store that sells
special sized shoes. Like double wide widths. Also though.. they can do special
things to shoes. I am one inch shorter on the left side. Than the right side.
Which really is a big difference. That happened I believe in a car accident 10
years ago, when the right arm bone was shattered. I have tryed chiropractors to
help straighten me out. The chiro finally admitted, its something I will have
to live with.

There is actually a doctor in the store, and he measured me. On height on one
side, compared to the other. I ordered a pair of shoes from them. Dress,
business shoes for school. The left shoe is higher than the right.

Got to say.. Its helped with the pain in the hip, right side of my body. Even
the lower back. Took some time to get used to wearing them. Felt strange to
walk right. My left bra stap stays in place better. The price for the shoe was
up there. But oh well, its worth it.

Now, thinking on ordering a pair of athletic shoes. I bet it will be of big
help with exercise.

Fantastic! The shoes will probably last longer than regular "off the
rack" shoes, so you might not be that far in the hole on price. And,
of course, it's worth it.

However, because they're a big investment, you might want to do some
of the old-fashioned shoe care techniques like keeping shoe trees
inside them, wiping them inside and out with soft cloths after each
wearing, polishing them with a moisturizing shoe cream every two weeks
or so (I recommend the Dr. Martens Wonder Balm). In other words, the
stuff our grandmothers did to keep their very few pairs of shoes in
better condition than the multiple pairs most of us own today.

Doing at least one of the above should lengthen the life of the shoes
considerably. Do all of the above (and take them to a good shoemaker
when the heels wear down to have the heels replaced), and they should
last you a good three or four years.

Now, thinking on ordering a pair of athletic shoes. I bet it will be of big
help with exercise.

Good luck! You really deserve applause for investing in yourself and
your health.

I feel for you! My right leg is 3/4" shorter than the left. I didn't start
getting correction for this until 1988 (well, except for when I had to wear
"special shoes" (aka orthopedic oxfords) back when I was 10-11, after which time
I REFUSED to wear them because they looked like baby shoes), and my body had
adjusted to it long before that. Because of that inner adjustment, I can only
tolerate adding 1/4"-3/8" to the right shoe. I take it to a shoe repair where
they add a full-sole buildup by cutting off the bottom of the shoe and gluing the
buildup material in between (so the original bottom with treads, etc., is still
on the bottom). It costs $35 at the repair shop I use. MANY shoe repairs will
NOT do this right, only adding to the heel instead of the entire sole of the
shoe. Since my feet are two whole sizes in difference (6 & 8), I have to buy TWO
pairs of shoes in order to get ONE wearable pair -- unless I go to Nordstrom,
where they will sell me one from each size as a single pair. Since injuring both
my feet in 1998, getting a decent pair of shoes is even MORE critical (and
difficult). As you can imagine, getting new shoes has been a lifelong nightmare
for ME -- it's no fun at ALL :-(

Thank you, I think it is worth it. I knew I was shorter on one side than the
other. Took me awhile to figure out. This could be the cause of the right hip
and leg, then the left knee bothering me. Like constantly just getting worse.

However, because they're a big investment, you might want to do some

Thank you so much for the tips and stuff. That helps a lot. The store I bought

I don't mind being old fashioned.

Yes, the shoe salesman said to do that when they wear down. The store I got
them from, has been in the salesmans family since 1926. Well, not sure I should
call him a salesman. A shoemaker? or orthopedic doc? Combo.. LOL.
Now, thinking on ordering a pair of athletic shoes. I bet it will be of big

Thank you T. Things seem to be falling in place. I am looking at all areas to
improve health. Mind, Body, Soul.

No wonder the knee gave out a lot when bike riding. My left leg is shorter than
the other. Duh!! Going back to the store for athletic shoes this time around.
The shoemaker, he also does sole buildups. The inch add on. On the inside of
the heel/sole.

I feel for you! My right leg is 3/4" shorter than the left. I didn't start
getting correction for this until 1988 (well, except for when I had to wear
"special shoes" (aka orthopedic oxfords) back when I was 10-11, after which
time
I REFUSED to wear them because they looked like baby shoes),

I cannot imagine having to wear them things. The shoemaker guy, he also does
leg braces and deals with children a lot.

and my body had
adjusted to it long before that. Because of that inner adjustment, I can
only
tolerate adding 1/4"-3/8" to the right shoe.

Thats what the shoemaker guy did for me. Just 3/8ths. He had me walk across
these different levels/inches of board, with my left foot. To see which felt
the best. He measured my hips. My right hip sits higher up than the left. I
knew that already. Its from the car accident. The right side of my body was
most affected.

I take it to a shoe repair
where
they add a full-sole buildup by cutting off the bottom of the shoe and gluing
the
buildup material in between (so the original bottom with treads, etc., is
still
on the bottom).

That is exactly what they did to mine. Same way. Still have the original
bottoms, yet you can see along the heel, where the buildup was done.
It costs $35 at the repair shop I use. MANY shoe repairs
will
NOT do this right, only adding to the heel instead of the entire sole of the
shoe.

I was wondering about that. I thought maybe call the place I got the shoes
from, see if I take in a good pair of athletic shoes, if they will do the
buildup. I think he charges 45$. Yet I also got the double wide feet. I love
this white and pink Nikes. Yet Nike and alot of the name brands don't carry the
double wide shoes. I wear a size 7 on both feet.

Since my feet are two whole sizes in difference (6 & 8), I have to buy
TWO
pairs of shoes in order to get ONE wearable pair -- unless I go to Nordstrom,

I cannot imagine that. That sounds so costly. Yet if its what ya gotta do, then
thats what ya gotta do.

Nordstrom lets you get one in each size though? Do you know if they sell double
wide shoes? I consider my feet, farmers feet. I got the wide feet like my
grandma.

where they will sell me one from each size as a single pair. Since injuring

I am so sorry its been like this all your life. I feel for you Saffire. This
was the first time I done something like this with my feet. Better fitting
shoes. I just want a improvement with being able to exercise. I think the
uneveness has caused the right hip, where it attaches to back.. that joint to
wear out. Then the left knee to give out easily, when exercising.

First it was taking care of emotional pain, depression. Then it was the
Fibromaylgia, doing what I could with that. Then low carb, losing weight. Now,
shoes. Whats next I wonder. I think its just a life long thing? Well, the most
important part of this journey for me. It was putting Me first and foremost.
Not last.
