South Beach Questions
I started the south beach diet last week (1 week today). I read on the
internet that milk is now acceptable in the first phase so I have been having 1-2 glasses of 2% a day with lunch and/or dinner. I have also been eating non-fat yogurt plain and vanilla. According to what I read this is appropriate. However this raises some questions with me. Whole milk has a lower glycomic index than skim or fat free. Why does SB recommend fat free then? Don't I want the lower index? I have been having coffee but have been trying to keep it low. I am using non-milk creamer but I noticed today that one of the main ingreedients in this stuff is modified corn starch, which is probably very high in bad carbs. Why would SB recommend using it or does it? Also some other questions with regard to how I feel. My lactic threshhold seems to be much lower now. My muscles start burning much sooner, long before I start processing O2. When I first started there where many times when I felt like I was on speed, but now I am mostly tired. What am I missing that is causing this do you think? I am also not getting any less hungry. It feels like I always need something to eat. I have been trying to ease these feelings with nuts or cheese but that only lasts for a while. Thanks for any input... -- "I'm a war president. Why do you think it is allowed? From your wording, it sounds like you neither have the book nor have read it. -- Jean B. |

For some reason I thought non-dairy creamer was ok and/or recommended. Now I question that highly and wonder if I have totally messed up phase 1 and need to continue for another 2 weeks... How about the question of why 1% over whole or 2%? Non-fat has a higher glycemic index than whole milk so why do we want non-fat? -- "I'm a war president. Whole milk has a lower glycomic index than skim or fat free. Why does
SB recommend fat free then? Don't I want the lower index? Because it's a ridiculous diet. Just IMHO of course. LCing since 12/01/03- Me- 265/226/140 & hubby- 310/253/180 |
