You won't always lose, though. Or not at the rate at which you think you
ought to given the amount of calories you are under your maintenance
level. I'm struggling with this paradox at the moment myself.

If you are eating less than maintenance, you cannot maintain your weight. Of
course, you might be losing at such a low rate that it can't be measured.
