A little information on spices and metabolism. Most agree they won't cause substantial weight loss - that's done through diet and exercise. http://www.ars.usda.gov/is/pr/2000/000724.htm http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial_metabolism.html |

I always thought this was a chemical reaction to the taste of spices as opposed to the actual spices. I may be wrong however. -- Gary 228/206/175 It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle thing |

Spices to increase metabolism?

You are incorrect. What you meant to say is, "I'm ignorant of them and don't believe they exist." Dally Spot on. Eating a heavily-spiced meal that contains capsaicin can increase your metabolism quite dramatically for up to 20 minutes. The hotter the peppers (I like jalipino) the bigger the metabolism increase. Although it would take a seasoned chili-lover (excuse the pun) to consume sufficient concentrated peppers to get more than a few tens of calories net loss, though. |
