Default Day 2

Well, day 2 has come and gone and I think I did really well staying below
the 20 carb limit. Here's my meal plan for today. Maybe y'all can tell me
if I'm on the right track. I am starting to see some color change on the
ketostix, so I think I'm getting there.

Anyway, here's what I had for eating today.

Breakfast:
1 scrambled egg with grated cheddar cheese and 1 tbsp salsa
1 cup cottage cheese (est. 8 grams carbs)
Water

Lunch:
More eggs (we need to go shopping) - approx. 3, scrambled, with grated sharp
cheddar,
less than 1 tsp ketchup, about 2 tbsp salsa.
Bacon - lots. I was craving for some reason. Had about 8 strips or so.
Water

Dinner:
Unknown quantity of roast beef dipped in sour cream with about 2 tbsp
organic Thousand Island dressing
water

I estimate my total carb intake at about 17 grams, roughly. We are in dire
need of getting to the store. I'm going to be making a shopping list
tomorrow. This was not the usual meal plan for me, even on Atkin's. I
still need to find my stinkin' book.

Hi Brian -- good for you for starting this WOE! A whole new world is about to
open up to you!

Off the top of my head I see a few things that should be changed with your
current menu. 1) Cottage cheese is not allowed during induction. 2) You need
to add vegetables. 2-3 cups/day of salad veggies OR 2 cups/day salad veggies and
1 cup other veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower, etc. 3) Commercial ketchup
usually has added sugar, so it should be avoided. 4) Did you check the TI
dressing for sugar? 5) Are you measuring the cheese? During induction you can
have 3-4 oz/day. Also, be sure to drink lots of water.

You can Google this group for "rules of induction" and/or "acceptable foods" --
there have been several very informative posts containing them, or go to
http://www.atkins.com. Also Google on "shopping list" or "grocery list" to get
some great ideas for what to get when you DO get to go shopping.

I started Atkins a little earlier than I had initially planned, so I know where
you're coming from as as not being entirely prepared ahead of time. Without
veggies/fiber, however, you're likely to end up ROYALLY constipated :-)

I ate cottage cheese every day throughout my first two weeks and did not
measure my cheese. I am a former vegetarian who eats at present ham and
bacon but that's all. I lost ten pounds. I am also drinking coffee. I don't
think a lot of these rules apply to everyone, I personally couldn't have
done it otherwise.

If you don't follow all of Atkins rules, then you shouldn't call it Atkins.

Jake(Generic low-carber who doesn't call it Atkins, btw:^P)
