Default Doug, have you tried the "Kanten" plan

Today's WSJ ran an article about the Japanese fad diet using gelatin
made from ground up seaweed to trick the body into thinking it's full.
Dieters are choosing all sorts of products such as powdered kanten to
noodles made from it. I'm familiar with it as agar-agar.
Here is a recipe called Strawberry Fields: 1 quart apple juice, 1/4 cup
agar flakes, 1 pint strawberries, 2 T maple syrup (optional). Soak the
flakes in one pint of apple juice in a saucepan for 15 minutes.Puree
strawberries in a blender with remaining apple juice adding maple syrup
if desired. Bring the agar-apple juice mixture to a boil, then reduce to
simmer, stirring frequently to make sure that sugar is disolved fully.
After the agar is disolved, allow the mixture to cool then add to
blender with the pureed berries. Blend briefly. Pour into a baking
dish or parfait cups and cool in the refrigerator. Serves 6.

I have not tried that or heard of it, though there are a lot of kon'nyaku
products here that serve the same purpose.

Your recipe is well beyond my cooking abilities. It might as well be a

home
nuclear fusion recipe.

Lee, they don't do points in Japan. You would add the calories and
divide by 6 if you made six servings. I think it sounds disgusting
because apple juice and maple syrup don't appeal to me. The agar-agar
is like Knox gelatin.
