Default How Does Planning Help You?

When I low-carb, I like to sit down on Sunday and make out a menu for
the week. Then I know what to buy when I shop. I shop that day, and
when I get home, I prepare and refrigerate a lot of foods in advance.
That way, I always have an easy, quick low-carb dinner when I get home,
and I never have to face those moments where there is nothing low-carb
in the house and I'm tempted to cheat.

What kind of planning do you find helpful?

I shop on weekends for those foods I eat during the week. I cook more than
one serving (i'm single), so I'll always have something quick to eat, since
on three nights per week I get home from the gym late. I only buy low-carb
suitable foods for storage, btw. If I decide to have something non-LC, then
I only get one single serving, and none remains in my house. Sure, that's
more expensive, but it works for me.

Heh, what I find helpful is that my diet doesn't vary much. Salads,
stir-fry, deli-meat and cheese rollups, nova salmon, brocolli, spinach,
eggs. That's my shopping list most of the time. The only reason I get more
variety in my diet is that I live with my dad and he does the entree meat
shopping, and buys whatever's on sale. Sometimes chicken, sometimes ground
beef, sometimes steak.

I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

We make a menu and I shop twice a week. SO does all the
cooking and he has wonderful ideas of what to make for us
that is Atkins friendly. We both love leftovers, so
whatever he cooks usually lasts 2-3 days. There is always
something in the pantry or refrigerator that looks good, so
no need to go looking for hamburger when I've got steak, so
to speak.

Good topic! I like to grocery shop a couple times a week, but I always
make a list, as I find that keeps me going down the right aisles --
not the "wrong" ones. I boil eggs a half dozen at a time so there is
always a bowl of cold ones in the fridge if I am starving. I try to
keep cheese sticks, cream cheese, tuna fish, and deli meat on hand for
when I don't feel like cooking, and when I cook, I make extra so I've
got leftovers a couple meals. I also make concentrated stock from
veggie ends and cheap chicken/beef and freeze it, so I can use it for
soup. Rebeq

I am going to do that too, sit down and make a menu plan for the week.
I have been going to the store to pick up food we have ran out of.
Feeding a big family here, so got to get larger amounts. Adding in
some extra vegies that I havn't tried yet. Like spaghetti squash.
Tried zucchini last week, some liked it, some didn't. Found some
great recipes on the Atkins site and trying them too. Its so hard to
shop for a weeks worth. At least until next Saturday. Got most of the
meats allready.
